Lonely Dog's Sad Cries Lead Rescuers To Door Of Locked Basement

No animal should ever be neglected. There is simply no excuse for it. You can always find a shelter, a rescue, or a family who is willing to take care of an unwanted pet.

Sadly, this is not the case for many animals that find themselves abused, malnourished, and neglected by their owners.

Gracie the bulldog is one example. She was left to basically fend for herself in a basement for quite some time. After she was rescued, this 2-year-old bulldog needed a lot of care and love.

Queen City Bulldog Rescue posted details about the rescue on their Facebook page. Their post also showed a screenshot that was taken from a private group called Cincinnati Animal Control.

The post requested urgent help for the neglected dog. Apparently, the animal had been living in an abandoned home for weeks. She was stuck in a filthy basement and had no outdoor access. According to the post, her voice was hoarse from all the barking she had been doing in order to get noticed.

The owner had been keeping Gracie for breeding purposes. He was obviously only trying to make money off of the dog and did not care how the dog lived. Since Gracie was unable to get pregnant again, the owner agreed to give her up for $200.

"She is absolutely desperate for attention and food," the good Samaritan wrote on Facebook. "But she is so sweet."

While the owner did dump dog food on the floor for her to eat, this was the only time she came into contact with the outside world. Sometimes bulldogs get a bad rap. But the video footage that was released of her shows that she is truly a sweet dog.

Chelsea Muenzer is the founder of Queen City Bulldog Rescue. She told the Dodo that Gracie craved human touch after being brought in. She also said that she seemed to trust the staff immediately after being rescued from her disgusting surroundings.

Gracie is currently living with a foster family as she learns to trust humans. She has never been happier. She loves warm, cozy blankets and bubble baths and enjoys taking walks out in the sunshine and playing with the kids in the family. They even give her cookies as treats.

We are so glad that Gracie was rescued. Her sweet and loving personality is all the thanks the rescue needs. Remember, you can make a big difference in the life of a neglected animal. Consider adopting today.
