Surprisingly, despite his incredible success, Benny Hill lived a very frugal life. No mansions and vacation homes for him; no sports cars, yachts, or wild expensive parties; he just lived a quiet, inexpensive life. He never even purchased his own home or a car.

He rented a flat and preferred walking and taking the tube over driving, although he did possess a drivers' license. He preferred walking to hailing cabs. He also preferred to obtain his nourishment from home-cooked meals rather than dining out and did all of his own grocery shopping, as detailed here at The Daily Mail.
He was also not into buying new clothing and preferred to have his clothing mended and patched long past the point most people would just toss it out. His one and only luxury was taking vacations in France, but even then he would stay in cheap accommodations rather than in five-star hotels.

When he died in 1992, his estate was found to be worth 7.5 million pounds, or approximately 10 million US dollars. The inheritance was shared equally among his seven nieces and nephews. Benny Hill also never married or had children. He is thought to have proposed to three different women throughout his life, all of whom said no.
