The Obama's eldest daughter was only a child when her father took office as the President of the United States of America. She recently turned 21, and it feels like she grew up right before our eyes, so why is there so much that we don't know about the former first daughter? Here are five little-known facts about Malia Ann Obama:

She Had a Strict Upbringing

Barack and Michelle revealed that they didn't want to spoil their daughters, so they started giving them a dollar a week to do their chores. It gave them a sense of responsibility and taught them to save for that they really wanted. Barack Obama said to People back in 2008 about Malia, "We were giving her a dollar a week as long as she did all her chores. It turns out that she’s been doing her chores even without prompting from the allowance." Apparently, all teenagers have to clean their rooms, even if they live in the White House.

Her Birthday is the Fourth of July

Malia shares her birthday with America. It might seem awesome at first, but imagine having to spend your birthday stuck in a hotel room because your dad was addressing the nation. Fortunately for Malia, her parents always managed to take time out of their busy schedules to celebrate with her. They would have a birthday cake delivered to their hotel room and dance to all of Malia's favorite songs according to U.S. Magazine.

The Secret Service Made an Exception to the Rules for Malia's Senior Prom

Malia wanted to ride in her prom date's car when she went to her senior prom according to Michelle Obama's new book "Becoming." The children of the president are strictly forbidden from being driven anywhere by anyone but their security detail. The Obama's worked it out so that Malia could ride with her date.

She Took a Gap Year Before Starting Collge

Malia Obama took a gap year before starting college at Harvard University. However, Malia didn't spend her time off partying with her friends. She interned at the U.S. Embassy in Spain, spent three months exploring the Amazon Rainforest, studied conservation in Bolivia and Peru, and worked for a film production company in California according to Winterline.

She Might Follow in Her Parents' Footsteps

Malia is preparing to start her junior year at Harvard. Both Michelle and Barack Obama attended Harvard Law School, but Malia has yet to announce her intended major. Does she have political aspirations? Will she apply to law school, or will she pursue a career in the film industry? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Malia Obama has everything she needs to succeed in life.

In 2015, Malia interned on HBO's "Girls." Lena Dunham, the show's creator and producer, said she was extremely impressed with Malia's work ethic according to Project Casting. We're guessing she inherited that work ethic from her parents.

Do you think Malia has plans to become a lawyer? Will she move to Hollywood and work in the entertainment industry? Don't forget to tag your friends who can't get enough of the former first family.
