Okay. It's Christmas time. You're running from one store to the other to make sure everyone gets the best gift for under the tree. Each one gets wrapped with care. You've even got the menu set for Christmas dinner.

But, have you ever stopped and thought, what is Christmas really about?

Presents are exciting and fun, especially for kids. All the food we make and eat is delicious. The colorful lights that adorn our tree and home are mesmerizing. Yet, among all of these material things, the real meaning of the Christmas season is not monetary.

A young girl named Riley Bylone understands this more than most. This 9-year-old has shown the world exactly what Christmas is really about.

Writing a letter to Santa is a tradition for many children. It's a way to let him know exactly what we want for Christmas. Kids ask for anything and everything, from gaming consoles to a Tonka toy. Riley wrote her note to Santa and sent it on its way while visiting Lowe's in Millville.

Riley's note was different from most. Instead of asking for a toy, she made a special request of the jolly elf in a red suit.

Her note stated her firm belief in Santa, despite her classmates' opinions. Then, she went on to make a heartfelt plea. A friend of hers had lost her dad and the family was living in the backyard. Riley pled for Santa's help for her friend.

Later on, employees started looking through the letters, seeing which ones they could help with. Riley's note was one that caught their eye. They saw the selflessness and thoughtfulness in one so young.

The store recognized the true beauty of this child's request and the tragedy of her friend's situation.

To find out the writer of this letter, the store manager reached out through social media. The word got out and it wasn't too long that the store manager found the Bylone family in Buena Vista. Riley' parents are extremely proud of their daughter's selfless request.

Even better news, Riley's friend wasn't exactly in the dire straights that was originally thought. A social worker has been in touch with the friend's family and is making sure all is well.
