Little Girl Thinks Military Dad Is Overseas - Until She Sees Her Christmas Tree Behind Him

Military families represent the best of America. Their willingness to sacrifice so we can enjoy our freedoms truly set them apart from other people.

As parents are deployed overseas, they miss milestones in their family’s lives, whether it be the birth of a child, a school play, or the simple day to day mundanities of everyday life taken for granted by most people.

Just as parents sacrifice, so too do children.

The kids of our honorable men and women in arms miss out on simple things like going to the movies with their parents or playing ball in the backyard after a hectic school day. Worst of all, they are consumed with worry that something bad might happen to their mom or dad. As such, when military parents return home, they are more often than not greeted enthusiastically by their children.

Such is the case of young Iliana Morski of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Iliana’s father is Captain Eric Morski of the United States Army. Following her father’s deployment to Nepal six months ago, Iliana came up with an inventive method of communication.

Using FaceTime, Iliana and Captain Morski would eat meals together. Because of the different time zones, Iliana would be eating breakfast as Eric was sitting down to dinner. The two would have normal conversations through the app, telling each other about their day and wishing each other a good night and a good morning.

The little girl and her father continued their routine throughout Eric’s deployment, but one night something strange happened that many might call an early Christmas present. As Iliana was preparing to go to bed, her mother Meredith told the little girl that her father was on FaceTime.

Eager to speak to her dad, Iliana didn’t realize that her father was talking to her from their living room.

As the family’s Christmas tree came into focus behind her father, Iliana was ecstatic to discover that he was home.

Running down the stairs, Iliana jumped into her father’s arms, tears filling her eyes as she told him how he much he missed him. Iliana, Eric, and Meredith will have much to look forward to as Captain Morski spends all of next year stationed in their home of Fort Bragg.
