Music has long been recognized as the key to our hearts; helping us to express ourselves when mere conversation would fail. For ten-year-old student Kayleigh Rogers, singing is her way to step out of her comfort zone and speak to the world! She showcased this talent when she sung “Hallelujah” during a performance with the Killard House School in England.

For years, Kayleigh has dealt with learning difficulties and disabilities such as autism and ADHD. When she first started school at Killard House, she was a very shy girl who wouldn’t talk or read aloud in class. Over the last few years, Kayleigh has worked hard to overcome her obstacles and stepped out of her shell to perform the beloved song in front of an audience.

Kayleigh knows all of the words from "Hallelujah" by memory and doesn’t even use sheet music when she is singing. When she took the stage in her simple school uniform, she opened her mouth and seemed to instantly transform from a child into a song bird.

As Kayleigh sang, she poured her whole heart into the music, unleashing all of her emotions. Grown men within the audience were found brushing tears from their eyes, completely overtaken by the performance.

Kayleigh’s mom spoke out to BBC to explain that Kayleigh has always had a passion for singing; however, it wasn’t until she started attending Killard House School that she truly had the ability to step out of her comfort zone. Singing is like a security blanket to Kayleigh, giving her the strength that she needs to get up in front of the large crowds and perform while all eyes are on her.

Colin Millar, who works in the position as principle of Killard House, called the girl’s performance pure magic. He went on to explain that Kayleigh is normally a quiet child but, when she starts to sing, it is like she is transformed and the doors to her heart are opened to the world.

Kayleigh’s performance can teach us all that it is possible to overcome our personal obstacles if we are willing to step out and try. We look forward to seeing what awaits Kayleigh in the future and can only hope that it includes more beautiful singing performances!

What do you think of Kayleigh’s performance? I think we can all agree that it’s a rendition of “Hallelujah” that can be enjoyed by everyone! Pass it on to your friends and family so they can enjoy it as well!
