Little Boy Falls In Love With Foster Dog That Has Cleft Palate Just As He Does

It has not always been an easy road for little Landon Sayer. The boy was born with a severe cleft lip and palate, requiring numerous surgeries and a host of other medical treatments.

Prior to his birth, Landon's mother Kelly had been a staunch advocate for animal welfare. Kelly said that she has loved animals her whole life, even choosing to be a veterinary technician as her career. The family had devoted much of their time to fostering animals in need. However, Landon's medical needs forced the family to put fostering on hold so that they could properly care for their son, she told Liftable, a section of The Western Journal.

Landon had his first surgery when he was only eight months old. In addition to the surgeries, Landon required special feedings and regular doctor appointments to ensure that he was gaining weight. It was all stressful for the Sayer family but they continued to put the needs of Landon first.

Kelly said that as Landon grew older, he began to realize that he was different than the other kids his age. However, Landon took great comfort in the company of animals. It was then that Kelly realized that the family should start fostering animals again.

After letting the local rescue center know that the family was available to take on more animals, they were quickly placed with two puppies who had been abandoned in a dumpster. When Kelly noticed that puppies with cleft palates were at the rescue center, she offered her home to these dogs.

It did not take long for Bartleby Bogart to arrive at the Sayer household. The dog was born with the same side cleft lip and palate as Landon had so it was not a surprise that the two would quickly form a lasting bond.

Kelly said that Bartleby is an angel to Landon, laying next to him every time he recuperates from a medical procedure. Because of the incredible bond that the two share, Kelly knew that they needed to make Bartleby a permanent part of the family.
