You’ll love this beautiful version of “In the Ghetto” by the late Elvis Presley, put together with his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. Both versions of the touching song were combined into a black and white video with haunting images of babies and guns, in addition to Elvis and his daughter.

The song was first released by Elvis Presley in April of 1969. The song talks about generational poverty. It describes a mother who has a baby boy while living in the ghetto of Chicago. Unfortunately, she has many children to feed and he grows up being hungry and angry. He also is witness to the poverty and violence around him.

When he becomes an adult he purchases a gun and goes out to steal a car, but he is shot just when his own child is born. The song is meant as a description of the violence and poverty that happens every single day in the United States, and it was a major hit when it came out so many years ago.

“In the Ghetto” was a Top 10 hit in the country when it was released.
