Lion Begs His Dog BFF For Forgiveness And His Sweet Gesture Gains Internet Fame

Back in 2018, at the Black Jaguar-White Tiger foundation located in Mexico, Miki, a white lion, was filmed kissing the paw of Camila, a chocolate Labrador, in a gesture of asking for forgiveness. A video of the adorable scenes quickly spread through various social media, delighting viewers all over the world. Seeing a dog and a lion engaged in what seemed so human-like behavior fascinated viewers. Since the gesture seemed almost romantic in nature, many saw a heartwarming and touching moment between two animals that would not normally interact much, or even peacefully, if they had encountered each other in the wild. Since humans have certain notions about cats and dogs and the supposed animosity between these two animals, the scene garnered additional interest.

Lion and Canine Companion: Fighting Like Cats and Dogs?

Witnessing the interactions between a lion and a dog is rare, as a dog could easily be considered prey to this fierce predator.

However, Camila and Miki were rescued together by the Black Jaguar-White Tiger Foundation and did not meet each other in the wild. The background behind their sweet relationship is sadly not quite as heartwarming. Miki had been kept illegally as a pet inside an apartment. The male lion had been raised together with Camila the dog ever since the two had been babies.

Now, an apartment is not an ideal place for a lion. Thankfully, Miki's previous owner recognized this himself and contacted the BJWT foundation. The foundation sent out personnel to collect the then overweight young lion and relocate him to a better, more natural habitat.

Camila the dog followed the transport with which Miki was brought to the sanctuary. Not only that, the loyal dog, according to the explanation post published by the foundation's Instagram account, stood at the gate to the wildlife sanctuary, crying and clearly asking to be let inside.

Sanctuary workers say that they both become very nervous when they cannot be around each other and usually spent most of their day together.

Not Tonight, Dear

Though it is a strange relationship, some lions have been noted to form deep bonds with humans and other animals. This is the case with Miki and Camila, who are life-long companions. Personally, it gives us all the feels!

In this video, you will see Miki take Camila's paw for a gentle kiss. Clearly, Camila isn't in the mood for affection and turns abruptly to walk away, leaving Miki following after, tail between her legs.

The workers say they often catch the big cat and dog in various exchanges on video at the sanctuary, but few are as hilarious as this one. It's almost as if Camila is saying, "Not tonight, dear, I have a headache."

The exchange obviously saddens Miki as he sulks behind Camila, potentially hoping to get back into her good graces. It appears Miki is apologizing and asking Camila to take him back.

The video has racked up over 33 million views and hundreds of thousand of "likes" and comments. Some were worried about the dog's safety, while others had jokes. Some of our favorites include:
