Lily-Rose Depp Tries To Overcome 'Insanely High Expectations' As An Actress

Lily-Rose Depp and her brother Jack Depp are the children of award-winning actor Johnny Depp and singer Vanessa Paradis, who dated from 1998 until 2012. The children were living in their mother's native country of France in 2020, alongside their mom and her writer husband, Samuel Benchetrit, who she wed in 2018.

Johnny Depp has been receiving negative publicity, especially after his private life started unfolding in public. In 2015, he married Amber Heard, but she filed for a divorce in 2016, accusing Johnny Depp of abuse. Their divorce was finalized in 2017. Lily-Rose Depp took to Instagram to dedicate a post to her brother, Jack, for his birthday in April 2020. The rarely-pictured Jack appears to bear such a striking resemblance to his famous father when he was his age; you can hardly tell them apart. These siblings seemed to be enjoying each other's company a lot. The post also included several black and white photos of Lily-Rose and her younger brother making funny faces when they were younger.

Lily-Rose also looked glowing on her 21st birthday while enjoying the Parisian sunshine in May of 2020. The young actress was seen with her stepfather on his bike on her birthday as well, and just a day before, she was seen with her mom, her brother Jack, and his girlfriend Camille Jansen out and about in Paris. According to Daily Mail, the celebrity offspring says that her parents were not "strict" while she was growing up, so "there wasn't anything to rebel against."

In 2020, US Weekly confirmed that she had split from actor Timothee Chalamet after a year of dating. The two had met while filming the Netflix movie "The King." Rumors of a romance started in October 2018, when the pair was spotted grabbing coffee in New York and taking a stroll in Central Park.

Even though they are no longer dating, Chalamet and Lily-Rose were spotted shopping together in April 2021, according to Vanity Fair. An eyewitness shared, "Timothée has come into the store several times, both with Lily and alone. While Lily was looking at something outside, he bought it quickly for her as a secret gift and then ran out."

Lily-Rose has starred in "The Dancer," "The King," and "A Faithful Man." However, she says that being in the public eye makes her self-conscious, especially during interviews. The only time she doesn't feel anxious about being the center of attention is when she is working. "When I'm acting, I'm not thinking about myself," she explained to W Magazine. "Because I'm not there. You know?"

"I mean, you can't be worried about looking pretty when you're acting," she adds, "if you've got a camera in your face, you're going to be thinking about it at first. But the more I learned about how important it is to know your character so well, the less I thought about myself as part of the equation."

The starlet says that her parents always tried "to keep my brother and me as much out of the spotlight as they could. (And) now, I'm choosing to do this job, and I know what comes with it. But when you're younger, you don't get to choose."

Lily-Rose is also aware of the privileges that come with having famous parents, but she says it isn't always easy. "I'm not going to say that it doesn't make it easier to get your name out there," she said. "Obviously it does. But honestly, to me, there's also something even a little bit harder about it, because the expectations are so insanely high. My parents are both incredible artists in their own right. So all I can do is try and be my own person and do my own work."
