Lilibet Wears Cute Accessory Handed Down From Brother Archie In ‘Harry & Meghan’ Series

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shocked the world by announcing they were stepping back as senior royals in early 2020. They have since relocated to the United States, where they live with their two children, son Archie and daughter Lilibet. Although they retained their HRH titles, they would no longer receive financial support from the palace or undertake any royal duties as representatives of the monarch. Their sharp criticism of the royal family's culture in the now infamous Oprah Winfrey interview of 2021 was met with some opprobrium around the world, but the couple also found a lot of support.

Since relocating to Montecito in Santa Barbara, California, the Sussexes have been busy setting up their own brand, Archewell. Meghan began hosting a podcast called “Archetypes” that “dives into the labels that try to hold women back,” while Harry has been working on his memoir, entitled “Spare,” described as being “full of insight, revelation, self-examination and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”

The couple also embarked on a journey to document their lives since their departure from the grand halls of Buckingham Palace in the Netflix series “Harry & Meghan.” The show chronicles the pair’s progression from the “secret, early days of their unexpected romance” to marriage in May 2018, as well as their experiences under intense public scrutiny.

On the lighter side, the series also sheds light on Harry and Meghan’s life at home with their children. Videos and photographs serve as a reminder of the fact the couple is much like most parents, who only want the best for their kids. And like most children, even for little Lilibet, hand-me-downs are just part and parcel of sibling life.

Now that Prince Harry and Meghan are no longer working royals, they are enjoying a different kind of life in sunny California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. It seems that California life is offering a particular sort of freedom that Harry didn't get in the royal family. In their somewhat infamous interview with Winfrey, the couple spoke about their reasons for distancing themselves from that London life, touching particularly on the flexibility a more civilian life would allow them.

The couple's decision to relocate appeared to be very much driven by their children. Their firstborn, Archie, was born in May 2019. After his birth, his parents were careful about keeping him away from the public eye as much as possible. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first announced that they were expecting their second child on Valentine's Day in 2021, and revealed the baby would be a girl in their interview with Oprah. Lilibet was born on June 4, 2021.

Since then, Meghan has opened up about her typically frantic home life with two small children during an episode of her podcast in November 2022. “So the morning rush, I’m sure it’ll only get more chaotic as they get older, but for me, it’s. You know, both monitors on for the kids to hear them, always up with Lili. Get her downstairs. Then a half hour later, Archie’s up. Start doing his lunchbox right before he’s up, while I have her getting her a little nibble. My husband’s helping me get him downstairs, and it’s — I make breakfast for all three of them. It’s very important to me. I love doing it,” she said.

Their move to America exemplifies this drive to craft a more normal life for themselves and their children, and part of that includes hand-me-downs.

Meghan and Harry are notoriously private about their children, and very rarely offer the public glimpses of little Archie and Lilibet. Among those rare times, however, the couple has posted photos on social media of the kids. In 2019, they shared an adorable father-son picture, with Archie looking cute as a button in a gray beanie with pom-poms. It turned out the beanie was among the knitwear made by a social enterprise Make Give Live, and the Sussexes had ordered 100 beanies to be donated to children in need in New Zealand.

Three years later, eagle-eyed viewers spotted the beanie again in the “Harry & Meghan” docuseries, but this time on Archie’s little sister. Lilibet was seen sporting the hand-me-down in the first episode of the series in a home video of her with her mother. In the clip, Lilibet was strapped to her mother, Meghan, as she ventured outside to feed the family chickens in their backyard coop.

The episode also highlighted Harry’s pride in his children, and the royal elaborated on the joy he has found in parenthood.

“My son, my daughter, my children are mixed race, and I'm really proud of that,” he said, and added: “When my kids grow up and they look back at this moment and they turn to me and say, ‘What did you do in this moment?' I want to be able to give them an answer. I think it’s such a responsibility as human beings that if you bring a small person into this world that you should be doing everything you can to make the world a better place for them.”
