Mr. Rogers once said that if you ever see something troubling in the world to look for the helpers. Such is the case of a story of a dog rescued from monstrous conditions in Mexico.

Yuki was found wandering the streets after her abusive owners kicked her out for having a medical condition that harmed her skin. The 6-year-old little girl was starving and near death when rescuers picked her up and brought her to a veterinarian. Yuki was diagnosed with an advanced case of sarcoptic mange, which made her skin look like potato chips.

According to a video by Paws 4 Hope, the vet also found Yuki to be severely malnourished, weighing only 44 pounds when she should have weighed around 60. Additional testing further found that Yuki had a tick-borne illness called Ehrlichiosis, which can cause respiratory problems and even blindness. Yuki’s vet and rescuers coordinated a proper response to help the neglected pooch.

The vet first removed layers of dead skin from Yuki, giving her the appearance of a severe burn victim. To make sure that she did not suffer, the vet prescribed Yuki pain relievers. Meanwhile, Yuki’s rescuers fed her a high-calorie diet, giving her back much of the strength she lost due to her neglectful owners.

Once Yuki was cleared by the vet, her rescuers put her up in a foster home in Mexico. There Yuki learned to love again, spending time on the family’s sofa and going on fun car rides. Yuki was later moved to a second foster home in California.

Yuki enjoys hanging out in her foster family’s backyard as she plays ball with her new four-legged friends. Yuki can rest safe in the knowledge that she is loved as she looks for a forever home. Throughout the whole story, Yuki’s rescuers want the world to know that there is no such thing as a broken dog and that any animal can lead a happy life no what happened to them.
