If you’ve ever tried driving in winter weather before, you know that ice and snow can make a mess of your windshield. While using the defrost button and washer fluid can do a little to help, the windshield wipers themselves can end up leaving behind a bunch of streaks that are impossible to see through.

There is nothing more frustrating than working to clean away ice from your windshield, then turn on the wiper blades to discover that they leave nasty streaks across your line of vision!

Thanks to the "Girls Auto Clinic Glove Box Guide", Banks explains to the world that the streaks from windshield wipers are due to dirt on the blades or else from wear. Unless the blades receive some servicing, they won’t be helpful at all!

Where does the nail file come into play? According to Banks, a nail file or emery board maybe just what drivers need to repair their wiper blades. By using the nail file to wipe down the part of the blade that touches the windshield, you can remove the built-up dirt and revitalize the blade itself.

Banks declares that this simple trick can give the blades a second life, making it safer to drive in the elements. Taking advantage of this simple trick can make wiper blades last between three to six months longer.

What if the blades are just too far gone? Well, in that case, it’s time for a replacement. Banks went on to explain that there is no hope for blades that are peeling off of the wipers. Rather than trying to use blades that are in bad shape, it’s better to bite the bullet and spend money on new ones before the old ones completely peel off of the wipers.

So, before you head off to replace your wipers just because they’re streaky, consider grabbing your nail file and get to work cleaning off that gunk!
