Country pop superstar Faith Hill gave fans a growling performance of Elvis Presley’s “That’s Alright, Mama” at Elvis: Viva Las Vegas 2008.
The tribute concert featured many great rock, pop, and country performers, from Miranda Lambert to Bruce Springsteen. For “That’s Alright, Mama,” Hill stood tall in dark jeans and a black leather jacket.
Surrounded by a small band and background singers, she strutted the stage with obvious enjoyment.

“That’s Alright, Mama” was Elvis’s first hit song in 1954, recorded with nothing but a bass and guitars. The song was originally written and sung eight years earlier by blues musician Arthur Crudup.
The song has gone through many singers and many styles, most notably the Beatles in 1963, so Hill had a lot of heritage to live up to. Fortunately, this enthusiastic, growling rendition not only lived up to the song’s great history, but made her own mark on it.
Hill began her music career a country musician, but much of her music is a crossover between country and pop. She’s probably best known for country anthems like “Wild One” and bubbly hits like “This Kiss” and “The Way You Love Me,” as well as for romantic duets with husband Tim McGraw, such as “It’s Your Love.” This makes her take on “That’s Alright, Mama” an exciting departure from normal with its black leather appearance and growly vocals.
