Princess Diana was one of the most prominent figures of the royal family due to her class, glamor and kind heart. She was known for her impeccable sense of fashion, her charitable ways and her overall friendliness and charming personality with everyone around her. Loved by many, Diana was easily a topic of conversation and the center of attention wherever she went.
Born into the British nobility, she grew up close to the royal family and later married into it when she married Prince Charles in 1981, thus making her the Princess of Wales. The general public had a fondness for the new princess and took to her liking pretty well. Together, Diana and Charles had two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. However, the couple’s marriage was full of problems, leading to a separation in 1992 and a divorce in 1996.
Diana died on Aug. 31, 1997, from the injuries she sustained in a car crash in a tunnel in Paris, France, which caused widespread media attention and mourning from people all over the world. Her untimely death has been the topic of conversation for many years, as there are still plenty of questions surrounding the tragic incident.
Over the years, many experts have weighed in on what exactly happened that fateful night, including surgeons and lawyers. A team of medical professionals explained how severe Diana’s condition was following the crash. However, there are still several theories that people worldwide have shared. While many believe that it was truly a horrible accident that resulted in a fatality, others believe that there are more layers to the story.

Diana's death is still one of the most shocking events widely discussed 25 years after her passing. Her funeral was held only a week after the terrible car crash that ended the royal's life. It was broadcasted around the world, and the images from that day show the heartbreak that was shared not just among Diana’s family but among her fans.
Diana's royal photographer, Arthur Edwards, told Nine News Australia, “When I stood outside the hospital as the coffin came out I broke down. It was really moving, I suddenly realized it was all over.” He also recalled that everyone around him began sobbing. What was perhaps the most heartbreaking event to witness at Diana's funeral were her sons William and Harry following their mother's coffin as their heads hung low.
Diana’s death was devastating for people worldwide, leaving many to wonder what exactly happened that tragic night.
The Independent reported that the doctors who fought to save Diana’s life spoke out about how they tried “everything possible” to revive her. Dr. MonSef Dahman was a general surgeon at the Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital in Paris and was called in to help Diana.
“It only took that moment for all this unusual activity to become clear to me,” he said. Dahman continued, “For any doctor, any surgeon, it is of very great importance to be faced with such a young woman who is in this condition. But of course even more so if she is a princess.”
After taking an X-ray, the doctor found that Diana was suffering from “very serious internal bleeding,” so he tried to remove the excess fluid from her chest cavity and gave her an external heart massage and emergency surgery to “enable her to breathe.”

The Independent reported that Diana had suffered a significant tear in her pericardium, which protects the heart. Professor Alain Pavie, a heart surgeon, arrived to help save Diana and discovered that she had a tear in her upper left pulmonary vein. Although Pavie was able to stitch up the lesion, Diana’s heart had already stopped and would not restart.
Professors Riou and Pavie, and Dahman, did all they could for a good hour to help save the princess, but nothing worked. Dahman revealed that not being able to save the Princess of Wales affected him “very much.”
Speculation surrounding Diana's death has continued, though, as The Mirror reported that a lawyer claimed her death may not have been accidental. Michael Mansfield said that the drivers of the mystery car and motorbike that were inside the Paris tunnel have never been traced.
“The idea that it’s purely and simply a road accident is not right,” he said. “So I want to dispel that. The truth does come to the surface in the end, but somebody’s got to be looking for it in order for that to happen.” He added, “I do think that this is not a ‘case closed’ by any means.”
Mansfield also said that “accident was not the verdict” following the inquest in April 2008. He continued, “The coroner drafted five options for the jury… the first was unlawful killing originally related to the grossly negligent driving of the paparazzi.” However, that option was later dismissed, and focus shifted toward the “following vehicles.”
“Questions still remain about whether this was a staged accident as the princess herself had predicted,” Mansfield said. “I’m anxious that it’s put straight. There were other vehicles inside the tunnel.” He added, “A new inquest could be called if new information came to light.”
