Lauren Daigle Dazzles Everyone With Her First Ever Performance On ‘Ellen Show’

Christian artists run into a strange paradigm in regards to where to go or who to court. On the one hand, the Gospels tell Christians to preach the good news wherever they can in the hopes of bringing converts to Jesus.

On the other hand, the church in America tends to be very distrustful of the secular world (and the secular entertainment industry specifically) as a world that will taint and corrupt innocent Christians.

Many evangelical Christian artists that approach the secular world such as POD or Lecrae often face criticisms as not being spiritual enough or compromising their integrity for the sake of wider fame. This is the current situation for contemporary Christian singer Lauren Daigle.

Almost Secular

The Christian singer has courted the secular world before. Daigle has stated she wants to reach people who aren't exactly church people and that often means venturing outside the Christian community. Last year, she contributed to the song "Almost Human" on the soundtrack for Blade Runner 2049, a movie with Biblical overtones and Christian-friendly themes of belief, divine purpose, and the sanctity of life.

Interestingly, it also contained the kind of nudity, coarse language, and graphic violence that the Christian world tends to frown on from Hollywood. However, Daigle's involvement wasn't heavily advertised and she escaped potential controversy.

Out in the World

Recently, Daigle took the next step towards wider national recognition by appearing on the incredibly popular talk show Ellen to perform "Still Rolling Stones" from her album, Look Up Child. Daigle later noted that Ellen herself had requested that be the song that Daigle would perform during her appearance.

Since the appearance, a number of evangelicals have taken to social media to condemn the appearance, citing host Ellen DeGeneres's open homosexuality as contrary to the Bible. Previously, Christian singer Kim Burrell had been invited to the show but was dis-invited following comments the singer made against homosexuality.

Love Wins

In response to the controversy, Daigle has rebuked her accusers, stating that God commands all His people to be kind to everyone. And that casting judgment on those who are outside the faith is contrary to the Scriptures.

Furthermore, Daigle stated in an interview with WAY-FM Radio, that she has seen spiritual healing from people who watched the performance. She also gave a beautiful message of love. She said, “I think the second we start drawing lines around which people are able to be approached and which aren’t, we’ve already completely missed the heart of God."

What do you think? Do you believe Daigle was right to use the show to broadcast a message of spiritual healing? Tell us in the comments and pass this question on to your friends and loved ones as well.
