Lamb With Spotted Body Rejected By Mother Is Taken In By Dalmatian

Oftentimes, when animals are rejected by their mother they suffer greatly and may even experience ill health effects. While that could have been the case for the little spotted lamb that was rejected by its mother, a selfless Dalmatian stood in as a surrogate during the little lamb's time of need.

Zoe, the Dalmatian, took it upon herself to stand in as a surrogate mother to a lamb named Dotty, who was otherwise rejected by her mom.

Born as a cross-bred lamb of a pure-bred white Dorper ram and a Dorper and Van Rooy ewe, Dotty soon found that she stood out from others, and not in a good way. Coming out as a speckled black and white lamb, the mother ewe wanted nothing to do with her newborn lamb. Rejected by her own mother, Dotty's owners were at a bit of a loss on what to do with their newest addition.

Upon sensing their similarities, a Dalmatian named Zoe took it on herself to stand in as Dotty's unnatural mother. Since Zoe is spotted, as well, it seemed like a natural match up for the two unlikely friends. It was not long before Dotty and Zoe became inseparable, forming a wonderful daughter and surrogate relationship. According to her owners, Zoe had a mothering instinct for this little lamb from the start, one that they did not interfere with.

While this is indeed a cute story, canine surrogacy is rather common. Usually considered as "a man's best friend," it seems that dogs are adept to be good companions to any mammal. These kind, gentle creatures have a heart of gold when it comes to others, even outcast lambs.
