Lady Gaga is constantly pushing boundaries, but there is one version of the pop star we might not have seen before. In a special 2015 Grammy Awards celebration for Frank Sinatra, the songstress channeled the crooner for a rendition of the hit song "New York, New York," with her own modern spin on it.

The song was a signature for Frank Sinatra's repertoire, but many people don't realize that it was actually written for Liza Minelli. The song's entire name is "Theme from New York, New York" and was written for the movie of the same name starring Minelli and Robert De Niro and directed by Martin Scorcese. Songfacts reports Frank Sinatra began singing it in concerts in 1978, a year after the movie came out. Today, Sinatra's name is strongly associated with the song.

In "Sinatra 100 — An All Star Grammy Concert," Lady Gaga was the performer chosen to channel Sinatra for the song. She joined other superstar singers for the tribute evening including Tony Bennett, Garth Brooks, Harry Connick, Jr., Celine Dion, Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Trisha Yearwood.

Gaga's performance was standout as soon as she made her entrance from a trap door below the stage.

She strutted around the stage in a chic black suit and old-school fedora while belting out the song with a steady vocal strength. She ascended the stage's staircase and continued to sing, and even got a chance to joke with the back-up dancers calling one of them "doll," just as Sinatra probably would have too. Even when she had just concluded a feat of a performance, she had more time to joke at the end saying she was ready for another whiskey.

It's your turn to watch the incredible performance in the video below:
