The road to success is long and arduous. To be successful at what you do, you have to sacrifice much and be prepared to work hard. Above all, to be successful, you have to be persistent. Sometimes the biggest obstacle in front of you are naysayers and those who want to see you fail. By ignoring those voices, you can find your true destiny and be the best of the best.

Surprisingly, pop superstar Lady Gaga had to overcome many misguided individuals who tried to discourage her from pursuing a career in the music industry.

Lady Gaga began her music career in the early 2000s as a college student at New York University. Attending class by day and performing in bars and restaurants by night, the popstar, who was then known as Stefani Germanotta, did her best as an aspiring musician in the Big Apple.

While most were appreciative of her melodic voice and talent as a pianist, others were less than gracious to the young performer.

A Facebook group called “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous” was soon created by a group of hostile NYU students. The group’s page was inundated with insults geared at Germanotta, telling her that she’d never be successful and calling her an “attention whore.” The group even tore down posters advertising Germanotta’s performances, stomping them into the dirty street.

Despite all the difficulties and harassment, we all know how Stefani Germanotta’s story ended: she became Lady Gaga, world famous entertainer with legions of fans. Looking back on the bullying Gaga endured at NYU, one of her classmates wishes she had done things differently.

Lauren Bohn was a freshman when she happened upon the “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous” Facebook page. Reading all the hateful comments sickened Lauren, who quickly closed the page and went on with her education.

It wasn’t until several years after she graduated that Lauren realized that Germanotta had become Lady Gaga.
