Kristen Bell & Drew Barrymore Strip Off Makeup & Hair Extensions In Refreshingly Real TV Moment

Drew Barrymore and Kristen Bell are proving that sometimes the best way to make a statement is to take it all off — at least when it comes to makeup and hair extensions.

The actresses shared a refreshingly candid moment on the Oct. 26, 2026, episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” removing their television-ready makeup and hair extensions while discussing beauty expectations, social media and the importance of feeling comfortable in your own skin.

Bell, 46, who appeared on the show alongside her “Nobody Wants This” costar Adam Brody, credited Barrymore, 51, with inspiring her to suggest the unusual beauty experiment.

“You were the inspiration for me suggesting this because there’s no other show you could do this on,” Bell told the host. “I can’t be like, ‘I’m gonna go on another talk show and take out my hair extensions.’ They’re gonna be like, ‘Could you… Maybe that’s not how we’re gonna do this talk show.’”

Bell then began unclipping her extensions and placing them on the couch behind her, with Barrymore enthusiastically following suit. As the two women wiped away their makeup, the conversation turned to the message they hoped to share with younger generations.

“Drew, you are just inspiring to me because you are so full of whimsy, and you are so full of loving life, and you are also not afraid… to show all the sides of you,” Bell explained.

The “Frozen” star said she began thinking more carefully about beauty and appearance a few years ago, when her daughters, Lincoln, 13, and Delta, 11, started expressing an interest in experimenting with makeup and fashion.

“I need to frame this well,” Bell recalled thinking at the time.

She decided to explain to her girls that makeup, clothing and fashion are not necessarily about hiding perceived imperfections.

“It’s not about concealment, it’s about creativity,” she said of the message she shared with her daughters. “And for some reason when I taught that to them, I also finally heard it for the first time myself.”

Bell, who shares her daughters with her husband, Dax Shepard, also spoke about the pressure people feel to look polished in online photos.

She explained that she generally wears little makeup in her everyday life and doesn’t feel compelled to apply a full face of cosmetics before sharing a picture on social media.

“I’m certainly not gonna stop and do a full beat in order to take an Instagram photo or put something out on social media,” she said.

“For me, it’s just like… I wasn’t born with makeup on. I’ll survive if I post something on social media without makeup on, and I want other girls, anybody, to feel that it’s not mandatory.”

The conversation also touched on parenting and helping children develop confidence that doesn’t depend on other people’s opinions. Bell praised Shepard for supporting their daughters’ choices about their appearance, adding that she wants them to develop “internal validation as opposed to external validation.”

She also explained why she and Shepard don’t want to shield their children from every difficult experience, particularly when it comes to future relationships.

“Friction and mistakes provide character and learning experiences and I don’t think I have the right to take those away from my daughters,” Bell said, emphasizing that parents can offer guidance without preventing their children from learning for themselves.

Barrymore, who shares daughters Olive, 13, and Frankie, 11, with ex-husband Will Kopelman, admitted that she worries about her own children navigating relationships.

Bell encouraged her to consider how her own past mistakes had helped shape her into the person she is today.

The on-camera makeover was hardly Barrymore’s first barefaced television moment. The host has previously removed her makeup during conversations on her show, including a 2024 interview with “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown.

This time, her conversation with Bell offered a reminder that beauty can be a form of self-expression rather than an obligation — and that sometimes, feeling confident means being willing to show the world a little less glamour and a little more of yourself.
