During the press conference, Goodell was asked what he thinks about the NFL's response to Bryant's passing. "I'm proud of… the way our players, the way our league, responded [on Sunday, after the accident] -- including a moment of silence during the game, with Kobe's picture up -- and the way our fans responded," Goodell said as per etonline. "And we did that again on Monday night."

"We as a league have been very responsive, and I think respectful, of somebody who contributed so much to sports," he added. Although he did not further elaborate on what the NFL has planned for Bryants tribute on Super Bowl Sunday, he did reflect on the impact Bryant's death had beyond just Los Angeles.

"I don't think just Los Angeles is mourning the death of Kobe Bryant," Goodell said. "Kobe was a special person."

"I did have the opportunity to meet him. He obviously brought a lot to our world, and I think all of us not only feel for the tragic events to his family, but as well as everybody else who was a passenger on the helicopter," he said. "It's hard to understand and it's hard to process."

Over 1.7 million people have signed a petition on change.org which calls for Kobe Bryant to be featured on the NBA logo.
The petition reads: “With the untimely and unexpected passing of the great Kobe Bryant please sign this petition in an attempt to immortalize him forever as the new NBA Logo.”

Although the petition’s initial goal was 500,000, it has since been risen to 3 million due to the number of signatures it gathered in such a short time after going live. NBA’s current logo features Los Angeles Laker’s star Jerry West and debuted in 1971. The logo incorporates Jerry West’s silhouette from a photo that was taken by Wen Roberts.
