Kirsten Dunst Left Home Of 18 Years & Now Lives In Classic Mansion — Inside Her Luxury Residence

Kirsten Dunst has acted in Hollywood since she was a child. In fact, she was even nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 1994's "Interview with the Vampire" when she was just 12 years old. Throughout the '90s and '00s she was a leading lady in many teen films including "The Virgin Suicides" and "Bring It On," and she also starred opposite Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi's "Spider-man" trilogy.

Since then, she successfully transitioned to adult roles and received acclaim for her role in "Melancholia," for which she won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Following that, she appeared in the second season of "Fargo," where she met her now-fiancé Jesse Plemons and earned an Emmy nomination for her role. Most recently she starred in the black comedy series "On Becoming a God in Central Florida," which earned her a third Golden Globe nomination.

While the world may know Dunst as an incredible actress, it's not so well known that she has a strong interest in and a great eye for interior design. Before she moved into the ranch house that she now shares with Plemons and their two sons, she had previously lived in Toluca Lake for 18 years. 

Recently, she revealed her current abode during a home tour with Architectural Digest, where she sat down with Jane Hallworth, the designer who helped her create the space. What's so special about it is that Dunst has a penchant for antiques and every item seems to have a touching backstory, including items that remind her of previous film roles. Let's take a look.

Dunst's previous Toluca Lake home was a Cape-Cod style abode that featured five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. The 4,333-foot house also had a flourishing garden, while in the back it featured a quaint, lakeside porch with a semicircular dock. After she lived there for over 18 years, Dunst sold the property for $4.7 million in 2019.

Now that she's part of a family of four, the actress and her fiancé decided to move into a much more spacious 1930s ranch home, also in the San Fernando Valley. She told AD: 

"I'm really a Valley girl. It's just more peaceful here than the other side of the hill."

Hallworth, who Dunst met 20 years ago and has been both a professional collaborator and friend to the actress, helped her design the space. As the two spoke about the residence to AD, it became clear that Dunst is no design novice and she clearly has a say in what goes into her home. What's more, she revealed her love for antiques and items that have a backstory. She said:

"I like old things. I like things that make me feel things. To me, it's a very emotional thing and Jane has always understood that part of me very well."

She added that she was Hallworth's "student in a way" since they started working together from when Dunst was 18 and "she introduced (her) to things that (she) didn't even know existed."

Her love of antiques meant they brought items Dunst already had in her previous home into the new one and also incorporated eccentric family heirlooms into the space. Two examples include antique ship models that Dunst's grandfather had made and a mourning wreath from the actress' great-aunt's farm in Minnesota.

What's more, the house is adorned with pieces that act as milestones in Dunst's career. One such item is a Frits Henningsen wingback chair that the actress bought with her "Spider-man" paycheck. Another is a pair of antique crystal beaded sailboats that Dunst bought in Paris. Interestingly, her character in the movie, "Marie Antoinette," had a sailboat in her hair, which further connected the item to her film role.

But although she took the reins in designing the house, Dunst didn't forget about Plemons. A native of Texas, Plemons' background was incorporated into the house through cowboy aesthetics. As well as including objects that referenced the Lone Star State, Hallworth also found a use for some of Plemons' furniture he already owned.

The rustic vibe continued into the gorgeous kitchen, which featured dark brick tiles on the wall, wooden shelves, dark red and black countertops and a marbled kitchen island. That cozy vibe extends throughout the whole house, which Dunst said was on purpose. She said the couple wanted their guests to feel relaxed and to be able to enjoy food, drinks, swimming and music while there. She added:

"We want people to have a good time, so as much as we value pretty, nothing is too precious."

Music is important to the couple and that's evident through the many musical instruments in their home. They have guitars, two pianos and even an antique parlor organ that's believed to have belonged to the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson.

An incredible actress, Dunst has shown through her impeccable taste that if she ever chose to leave acting, she could have a fine career in interior design!
