Michael Douglas recently received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. The seventy-four-year-old actor was joined by friends and family to celebrate the accomplishment. The group surrounding Douglas included his 101-year-old father, Kirk Douglas.

The elder Douglas has not been seen much by the public in recent years. His age, as well as a stroke suffered by the actor 20 years ago, makes public appearances difficult for him. He did make a brief appearance at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards. His daughter-in-law, Catherine Zeta-Jones joined him at the event and provided video footage. However, Kirk wouldn't dream of missing out on sharing in his son's big day.

Michael took the time to thank many people he felt made the path a little easier for him. His wife Catherine, and son Cameron were two of the people he identified by name.

Michael thanked his wife for the years of support and patience she has given to him. He also thanked her for the best 18 years of his life. To his son Cameron, Michael expressed the pride he feels for him.

Michael did not get overly emotional or teary-eyed throughout most of his short speech. However, this changed when he took a moment to acknowledge his father. It seemed his plan was to use a little humor to help him fight off the tears.

Michael informed listeners that his father would reach 102 years of age in the next month. He then joked that all who betted the under that his father wouldn't reach 80 lost their money more than 20 years ago. Michael also thanked his father for the advice and inspiration he had given him over the years.

The many film credits of Michael Douglas include roles in Wall Street, Fatal Attraction, and A Chorus Line. One movie historian characterized the typical role played by Michael Douglas as 'weak and morally compromised men who retain the potential for ethics that would allow them to become a hero.'

In any event, movie lovers have shown their support of Douglas' work for years and now he has his own star on the Walk of Fame to commemorate his efforts.
