King Charles Left A Heartfelt Letter On His Mother The Queen's Coffin

King Charles III, the eldest child of the late Queen Elizabeth II, bid goodbye to his mom in the most poignant way. It had also shown the kind of relationship he shared with her when she was still alive — one that he undoubtedly treasured. 

Elizabeth was quite the trailblazer herself, forgoing the tradition of having a senior politician present for every royal birth. Historian Kate Williams told The British Heritage, "until then, it was going to be witnessed, not in the room but outside, by Prime Ministers, by Home Secretaries."

However, Elizabeth's father, King George VI, would not have it. "Royal births were always witnessed by a senior politician, and the queen's father said no. So he put an end to that protocol. He said, 'even though she's giving birth to the heir of the throne, we are not going to have this witness,'" Williams added.

Elizabeth also broke with tradition by having her husband, the late Prince Philip, present for the birth of their youngest son. Ingrid Seward wrote in the book "My Husband and I: The Inside Story Of 70 Years Of Royal Marriage" that Elizabeth had read about fathers being involved in childbirth in women's magazines and asked for him to be by her side. 

The public was used to seeing Queen Elizabeth II at her very best all the time, so there was some concern for her health when she was recovering from a back injury in November 2021. Elizabeth always made sure to attend important events in any way that she could, and while she couldn't be present for her five-yearly visit to the General Synod, which is the national assembly of the Church of England, she made sure to include a meaningful message for all attendees.

It was the first time that the queen had not attended the event since it first began in 1970. Naturally, she was deeply missed, but she did not leave attendees without someone there representing the crown. ELLE reported that Prince Edward went to the event in place of his mother and read her message, which stated:

"It is hard to believe that it is over 50 years since Prince Philip and I attended the very first meeting of the General Synod."

Though the queen missed many events due to her ill health in late 2021, her strength and spirit were certainly not missed. Following her recovery, the queen got back to work and rang in her Platinum Jubilee in style in the first half of 2022. Now that she has passed, Elizabeth's meaningful words serve as a reminder of the kind of empathic and successful leader that she was. 

When Queen Elizabeth II lay in state at Westminster Hall, her closed coffin was adorned with various items from the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom or some of the most important ceremonial objects used in the British monarchy. 

While many mourned the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, some see a silver lining following her passing: a moment to celebrate the simple life she had lived while serving the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms until her last breath. 

For those who followed Queen Elizabeth's personal life, her reunion with the love of her life, Prince Philip, marks the end of perhaps one of the most remarkable love stories in Royal history.

Queen Elizabeth II was buried at the King George VI memorial chapel, which is the resting place of her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, and her sister, Princess Margaret. Philip was also interred soon after and joined Elizabeth at the memorial chapel. 

This will be a final and poignant tribute to Elizabeth and Philip and their incredible, enduring love as loyal companions for over seven decades. 

The wreath used during the processional a week before the queen's funeral bore an important significance. It paid a special tribute to her late husband, Prince Philip, as per Hello! magazine. The foliage consisted of dahlias, phlox, white heather, pine fir, and sweet peas from the Balmoral Castle, where the queen died.

Meanwhile, the wreath that sat atop the coffin of Her Majesty at her funeral was not an ordinary one. In fact, each part of its foliage was carefully selected. While it was strikingly beautiful, it was also special in more ways than one: the flowers included in its foliage were requested by King Charles III himself. 

In a tweet, The Royal Family revealed the wreath included "Rosemary, English Oak and Myrtle (cut from a plant grown from Myrtle in the queen's wedding bouquet) and flowers." Meanwhile, the shades were "gold, pink and deep burgundy, with touches of white, cut from the gardens of Royal Residences." 

But what made the wreath even more special was the note that King Charles III visibly left in it. Many were curious about the message in his note. While it was short, it definitely spoke volumes about their relationship as mother and son. "In loving and devoted memory. Charles R," King Charles III simply wrote.
