Even children understand the importance of kindness. One 9-year-old from West Park Elementary School felt he needed to make a difference.

According to ABC7, When Ryan Kirkpatrick found out that there were children that couldn’t afford their lunches and it was creating a debt, he knew he had to do something.

His mom, Kylie Kirkpatrick, told ABC News 7 that this problem really upset him and he was very eager and happy to help with the situation. He overheard his mom having a conversation about children that couldn’t afford their lunches. That’s when Ryan decided to come up with a plan.

His mom helped him out with gathering the information for the total deficit. For his grade, the total was $74.50 which included lunches that range from .30 to as high as $3.25 each. For the entire school, there was a deficit of $700.

This was more than Ryan could afford. He was able to clear out the $74.50 of his grade by himself which was what he wanted to do. He assured his mom that this was his decision and he was happy about it.

"It was I think $74.50. So I took that email and came to Ryan and said, 'What do you want to do,' and he said, 'I guess I can pay for it.' I said, 'are you sure?' And he said, 'yes.'" said Kylie.

Ryan paid off the debt with his allowance money. This is money that he could have used to purchase things that he enjoys like toys or sports gear but instead, his heart was heavy for those that couldn’t afford to buy their lunches.

At the time, he chose to donate the funds anonymously.

"I want them to realize people actually think about them because you're not just bragging about stuff. I want them to feel happy someone cares about them." the 9-year-old said.
