Helping someone who has nothing can often be heartwarming for everyone.
While on a subway train, someone captured the beautiful moment when a young man gave a shirt to a man who was homeless. The video has been shared and viewed by many people, sparking conversations about helping those who don’t even have clothes to wear and how to show support to others when it’s needed.
Joey Resto was 23 years old when he decided to do something nice for a stranger in 2016. He was taking the “A” train to his home in Brooklyn, New York, when he noticed the shirtless homeless man. The latter was shivering since temperatures were quite cold at the time.
The passenger did more than just give a homeless man a piece of clothing – Resto gave the man the shirt that he was wearing. The elderly man was sitting on a seat, shivering because he didn’t have the proper clothes to wear.
“He looked cold, hungry … like he had just gotten beat up,” Resto told ABC News. So, the kind man did what he “thought was right” and helped the other man out, taking the shirt off his own back and handing it over to the shivering stranger. Not only that, but Resto helped the other man put the shirt on, as it appeared he needed assistance.
Little did Resto know that he was being filmed. He didn’t know that his actions would soon be seen by others on social media. Read on to learn more about this heartwarming story.

Even though Resto shared that he “didn’t want to disturb” the stranger on the subway, he still made sure the man could put his arms in the shirt and helped him get it over his head.
“He looked so weak and frail,” Resto explained. “I had to help him, or he would not put it on.”
The video of the act was later posted online, where thousands of people viewed it. However, Resto was unaware that someone was filming him and performed the act of kindness simply from the goodness of his heart.
“It just came from the heart,” Resto said. “I don’t know how anyone could have walked past him and had extra clothing and not given it to him.”
However, the New Yorker shared that he “still felt bad” that he couldn’t have given the homeless man a warmer piece of clothing.
Still, his girlfriend, Yanisleidy Martinez, shared how proud she was of Resto for helping someone out. She added that it was in his character since he’s naturally a “giving” and “caring” person. Martinez continued:
“Everyone just gives money. This time he did something different. He noticed something was wrong when other people were just staring, and he did something about it.”
This was an act of love that displays the kindness that can be given through reaching out to someone who clearly doesn’t have the basic necessities in life. The look on the homeless man’s face showed just how much he appreciated his new shirt – and it’s evident that one small good deed could truly change someone’s life.
