Kind-Hearted Man Returns $40,000 Diamond Ring He Randomly Finds On The Beach

What would you do if you ever found a piece of jewelry in the streets? Would you keep it, or would you return it? For a man named Joseph Cook, it would be the latter.

Cook was at Hammock Beach in St. Augustine, Florida, when he found a diamond ring set in platinum. He then took to Instagram to share a series of videos sharing his experience from the moment he found the ring to the time he returned the ring to its rightful owner.

Cook was searching through the sand using a metal-detecting device when he found the ring. He couldn’t believe the shocking discovery. While Cook is used to finding pieces of jewelry on the beach, he admitted it was the biggest diamond ring he ever came across with.

When Cook finally got hold of the ring, he immediately expressed his amusement. “This is the biggest diamond I (have) ever found on the beach,” he said.

Cook then decided to visit different local jewelry stores to ask if anyone had lost a ring that day, but there were none, much to his disappointment. So, he took it to a jeweler instead. To his surprise, it was worth a whopping $40,000.

He then started receiving phone calls from an unknown number but chose to ignore them until he realized it could be the owner of the ring. True enough, it was indeed the owner of the engagement ring.

Tiffany Howard, the owner of the ring, commented on Cook’s post and expressed her gratitude to him for returning it to her after being lost for several months. Apparently, it was Howard’s engagement ring and was lost during a hurricane.

“I am still in shock that my engagement ring spent several months in the ocean, churned up by a hurricane and found by YOU!” Howard said.

Howard said she was in awe of Cook’s kindness as well as his persistence to find her.

“Even more shocking is your persistence in finding me to return it! I believe that I have once again witnessed the goodness of God through you! Thank you for what you did for me and so many others!” Howard remarked.

Cook responded, telling Howard that he couldn’t believe it himself, and that he felt it was meant to be.

“I believe it was meant to be. I knew as soon as I picked that ring up it was special. I posted it so many times. I emailed the jewelry store and was actually surprised when y’all texted me because I've messaged companies before with no response,” Cook said.

Cook revealed he found three other rings in the same area and initially thought it was a set. Adding in jest, Cook stated: “Lots of love and hope you wear it in good health. P.S. don't take it to the beach again.”

People commented on Cook’s post, with most of them praising him for what he does. “That's why we love you so much! You are an upstanding citizen,” someone said.

“Thank you so much for being a good person Joe. Doing everything you could to find the real owner. That's the right thing to do,” another said.

Cook still couldn’t believe he made it to national news. If there’s something he believes in, it’s that karma is real – and he’s proven it time and again:

"Karma's always good, every time I return an item, I find something better, so I'm happy I could give it back."
