Kind-Hearted Florida Man Spends His Freetime Cleaning Forgotten Veterans’ Gravestones

Most Americans have a lot of respect and honor for our fallen veterans. We hold parades and offer discounts for the men and women who fought for our country. Some people pay tribute by posting sweet messages on social media.

However, it is also true that many people forget about the gravestones of vets who have passed away a long time ago. Headstones are often left to decay in nature. Wind, sleet, hail, and snow can quickly erode away headstones of long-lost veterans. One man, in particular, is doing what he can to fight back.

Andrew Lumish is known as "The Good Cemeterian" because of all of the time he spends trying to spruce up old tombstones in the Tampa Bay area. Even though he is extremely busy, he makes the time to take care of our forgotten vets.

Andrew runs a carpentry and upholstery company in Tampa, Florida. His job keeps him very busy all week long. He gets one day off a week in which he spends it cleaning the graves of past veterans.

Andrew puts the same amount of professionalism and vigor into cleaning graves that he does when it comes to his business. He starts by rinsing off the headstones with water. Then, he uses a chemical called D/2 according to Fox News. After spraying the chemical on the headstones, Andrew uses a small brush to scrub away as much grime and dirt as he can.

You can tell by the pictures that his efforts leave amazing results. Plus, he doesn't just clean off the headstones of those who passed away recently. Andrew also works on the tombstones of veterans who died in the 1800s. Many of the headstones were virtually unreadable before Andrew gets to them. After he works his magic on them, the results are incredible.

It is hard work, according to Andrew. He has admitted that some of the older, untouched stones can take months to properly restore. Nevertheless, he is happy to be the one who brings life back into the gravestones. His wife also works alongside Andrew every Sunday, and they post before and after pictures on Facebook to show off their progress.
