Kind-Hearted Father And Son Take Delivery Driver By Surprise With $500 Tip During Lockdown

This is the story of an act of kindness anyone would be privileged to receive: In the middle of a pandemic. Last week, Tyler Patterson from Wichita, Kansas, and his father surprised a delivery driver called Sarwar with a $500 tip, and he reacted in the sweetest way.

For Sarwar the delivery driver, the day probably started out like any other day. He spends his day delivering food to people throughout the Wichita, Kansas area. The process is simple: he grabs the food from the restaurant, brings it to the house, and leaves. Sometimes he might get a tip of $5 or so from the person who ordered the food. But large tips are rare, and a delivery driver is lucky if they get one during their shift.

By "large tips," we're talking about something in the range of $20 or $30. But as you're about to see, Sarwar had no idea what was coming when he dropped the plastic bags of food on Tyler Patterson's doorstep.

The homeowner Tyler Patterson and his father are co-owners of the Patterson Legal Group, which aims to give back to the community in times of crisis. And what better way to give back to the community than to help out a local delivery driver? Delivery drivers typically make about $15 an hour, although the number can vary depending on the number of orders they receive. Either way, it can be challenging to make a living.

But Tyler and his generous father wanted to do something about that. So Tyler ordered food from a delivery service and got a wad of cash ready. And when Sarwar arrived at their house, he was in for the surprise of a lifetime.

When you watch the home security footage, you see that the delivery starts off like any other delivery. Sarwar walks up to the house, places the food on the doorstep, and lets the homeowner know that he's outside. Tyler Patterson steps out to collect the food. At this point, nothing seems unusual.

With his phone in hand, Tyler tells Sarwar to walk up to the door and says "So, we want to give you a tip tonight." This isn't completely unheard of, either – many delivery drivers accept a few cash tips during their shift. Sarwar was probably expecting a small tip of $10 that he could use to pay for gas.

Tyler says "What's a good tip? I want to make your night." That's an understatement. Sarwar seems surprised by the question and says that he doesn't need a tip. But Tyler wasn't taking no for an answer. He hands Sarwar a thick wad of cash and says "We want to give you...this is five hundred dollars. Is that okay?"

Yup, you read that right. A five hundred dollar tip for delivering food to someone's house! Can you imagine anything more generous?

At first, Sarwar looks shocked. We'd be shocked, too, if someone offered us that kind of money! He looks a little confused at first but happily accepts the money. "For me?" he asks as if he can't believe that someone would be that generous.

After watching this video, it's clear that Tyler made Sarwar's day. In fact, he probably made his whole week! Tyler and his father are incredibly generous people, and we can't wait to see what else they have in store for the people of Wichita.
