Pudding, a dog from Shandong, China, was caught on video giving food to a stray cat that had entered the garden of its home last month.

Dogs are famous for chasing cats. Pet owners everywhere know that the best they can typically expect from them is for dogs and cats to tolerate one another.

The Fu family first stumbled upon Pudding two years ago, according to Daily Mail. The furry, yellow stray dog had come to the family courtyard. The stray decided to stay and has been the family's guard dog ever since.

As a guard dog, Pudding lives in the Fu family garden just outside their Weifang, China home. According to Mrs. Fu, their watchdog is fiercely loyal to the family. She is also extremely protective of her territory and food.

When a dog such as this would see another animal in the garden, one would expect her to monitor it closely. If the intruder continued to get closer to the family's living space, one would expect the dog to bark and chase the offending animal away. This would be particularly true if the trespasser were a cat.

A Little Cat

One day last summer, Pudding spotted just such an intruder. The little orange and white cat that happened upon the Fu's courtyard was a stray looking for food or perhaps a warm place to stay. She or he had no idea what or who awaited it.

As per India Times, Mrs. Fu told The Paper that her canine protector loudly barked when she first saw the cat. This was not a surprise. Guard dogs often initially bark to deter an intruder.

On this visit, Pudding's bark had a very different message. The dog wasn't gearing up for an attack, but to get the cat's attention. She was successful.

Caution

The cat, of course, warily eyed the dog from the steps. What were this pup's intentions? Such a big dog's plans for an intruder couldn't be good.

Once Pudding had the cat's attention, the watchdog made her move. She quickly ran over to her food and grabbed a meat bun. The canine then brought the treat to the foot of the steps.

As Mrs. Fu saw this most unusual scene unfold, her first thought was that Pudding had put the food out to trap the cat. Her watchdog was very smart and had the intelligence to entice this helpless cat into a vulnerable position. Since the only thing left for Mrs. Fu to do was to wait for the attack to happen, she decided to film it and post it to a popular social media site.

A Surprise Ending

As Mrs. Fu looked at the scene in person and through her smartphone screen, she was treated to a surprise. Pudding backed away from the treat, so her guest could take it. When the dog had reached a safe distance, the cat quickly grabbed the treat and ran up the steps to enjoy it.

Such a gesture of kindness is a real treat. Now it's your turn to help others savor this and similar experiences. Take a few moments to post your thoughts here or at a social media community.
