In a significant victory for women's rights, a judge has ruled in favor of a woman seeking damages because she was not able to pump breastmilk at her place of employment.

A jury awarded Autumn Lampkins, 27, $1.5 million in punitive damages in addition to $25,000 in compensatory damages.

Lumpkins went to court stating that she was demoted by a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise because she wanted to pump her milk while at work.

The lawsuit claimed that Lampkins' manager and fellow colleagues made it difficult for the young mother to pump while on the job. Because she was not able to pump effectively, her milk dried up, she was made to feel uncomfortable, and she had to stop breastfeeding her baby sooner than she had planned.

Lampkins was only allowed to pump one time during every ten-hour shift. Doctors recommended that new mothers pump or nurse at least once every hour to keep milk supply up and to relieve discomfort.

At first, Lampkins was forced to pump in a single-stall bathroom at the restaurant. Then she was asked to move to the manager's office. However, Lampkins said that the office was equipped with surveillance cameras so she was not able to pump there.

Lampkins was originally hired at a Dover franchise but was then moved to another location. Because of her experience, Lampkins sued for harassment and gender discrimination.

Women everywhere are rejoicing in the decision by the jury to side with Lampkins. If you have not checked out the pictures of her adorable baby, now is your chance. After you have seen all of the pictures, be sure to spread the word to everyone else that you know.
