Kevin Bacon's Daughter Was Adorable But Now She Looks Gorgeous

It's common that the children of actors and actresses follow in their parents' footsteps in showbusiness. And that was the case for Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick’s daughter, 32-year-old Sosie Bacon. The only issue? At first, it seemed like they were reluctant to have her embark on an acting career. But as you'll see, their attitude certainly changed.

Actress Sosie Bacon is the youngest child of Kevin Bacon, 65, and Kyra Sedgwick, 58, both of whom—as you are well aware—are very successful actors. Sosie was named after Sosie Hublitz, the art director of the movie Miss Rosie White, which her mom had starred in. Sedgwick gave birth to Sosie shortly after she wrapped up filming for the movie.

But Sosie isn't the only child of the two famous actors—after they got engaged in 1988, they had a baby boy that they named Travis Bacon, who is 33 years old this year. Travis, who keeps a low profile in comparison to his parents and sister, is a musician who plays in a four-member rock-punk-funk band called Idiot Box. Sosie was born later in 1992 on the 15th of March in Los Angeles. She is best known for her role as Skye Miller in the teen drama 13 Reasons Why as well as for her role in Scream, the serialized anthology TV series. But before we find out about Sosie's burgeoning acting career, let's take a look at her parents' successful careers and how they met in the first place.

Kevin was born on July 8, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father was Edmund Bacon, an urban planner responsible for much of the city's design and who has come to be known as "The Father of Modern Pennsylvania." After realizing he wanted to become an actor, Kevin moved to New York at the age of 17 in a bid to work in the theater. He landed roles and even began some film work, but his start was slow and didn't lead to the fame he was hoping for. It wasn't until he appeared in Barry Levinson's Diner in 1982, followed by a starring role in the now-iconic Footloose in 1984, that he began to create a name for himself. However, due to the similarity of the roles, he also began to be typecast after this, something that he tried to fight against.

After a career slump, Kevin decided to switch up his approach from that of a leading man to a character actor. He appeared in films including JFK, A Few Good Men, The River Wild, Apollo 13, and Sleepers, among others. In a 1994 New York Times interview he spoke of his change in approach, stating:

"The only way I was going to be able to work on 'A' projects with really 'A' directors was if I wasn't the guy who was starring, because they can't afford to set it up with me, even if they wanted to. You can't afford to set up a $40 million movie if you don't have your star."

The rest as they say is history—his career has never let up since then and he's gone on to work in acclaimed movies and been nominated for various awards including the Golden Globes, Emmys, and Screen Actors Guild Awards. He was even included on The Guardian's list of best actors to never receive an Oscar nomination

Meanwhile, Sedgwick is an accomplished actress in her own right. A native New Yorker, she was born on August 19, 1965, and went on to study theater at college, but got her start on-screen in television shows and movies. From the mid-'80s onwards, Sedgwick appeared in both minor and major roles in movies including Something to Talk About, Born on the Fourth of July, Heart and Souls, and Phenomenon. In the last decade, she received acclaim for her role in television show The Closer, for which she won a Golden Globe Award.

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick's love story is not altogether different from other Hollywood couples, as they met while working on a movie together, specifically the PBS version of the play Lemon Sky. They got married on September 4, 1988, and would go on to have their two kids together. This period happened to coincide with the slump in Kevin's career, but he managed to see the positives, with his personal life blossoming the way that his career wasn't. He once said in an interview:

"The time I was hitting what I considered to be bottom was also the time I met my wife, our kids were born, good things were happening. And I was able to keep supporting myself; that always gave me strength."

The couple obviously loves working together as they've starred in numerous movies and shows together, such as Pyrates, Murder in the First, The Woodsman, and Loverboy. That interest obviously extends to working with their children too, as Sosie has also acted in movies with her parents. But while it might seem like an obvious path to follow, it wasn't always the easy option. Let's take a look at Sosie's journey and how she came to be an actress in the first place.

According to IMDb, the 28-year-old has been credited in more than 30 significant films and TV shows. While Sosie has grown up to be an actress in her own right, her parents were not always supportive of her working in the same industry that they have been in for a collective 80 years (Kevin has been actively acting since 1978 while Sedgwick started in 1982).

Contactmusic.com reported in 2004 (when Sosie was 12 years old) that Kevin tried to dissuade his daughter from becoming an actress but after he had cast her in his own film, 2005’s Loverboy.

Sosie had played the younger version of her mother's character in the movie. Yeah, it makes sense that Sosie would be cast for the role, and dad Kevin insisted “she did a fabulous job." But in the end, he would not be encouraging her to keep pursuing acting.

"I have my own feelings about child actors,” said Kevin. “I don't think kids should be working, and yet we need kids in movies. That being said, there was a great part for a 10-year-old girl that's supposed to be Kyra as a little girl, and I had to have my daughter do it.”

"I was playing the father. She did a great job, but I don't really encourage my kids to go into any kind of acting,” dad Kevin added. Sedgwick shared his sentiments:

"She's not going to be an actress. We're the biggest hypocrites in the world because we always told them they can never ever do anything professional before they were 18."

When the film was newly released, Sedgwick had insisted that the whole experience with filming put Sosie off acting when she said, "Actually putting her in the movie was the best antidote for any interest she had in becoming an actress because she was absolutely exhausted.”

"She's wonderful in the film,” she continued. “She's got a very small part, playing me as a little girl. By the end of the fifth day, she said, 'I think I got the whole acting thing out of my system!'" It has been 16 years since—and boy, oh boy, were they mistaken!

Sosie would then go on to work with her parents for the second time five years later in The Closer, an American television police procedural in which Sedgwick played the lead role while dad Kevin served in the director’s chair.

In 2014, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association appointed Sosie as Miss Golden Globe. Dad Kevin had told MTV that he was “sort of astounded at how easily [Sosie] slipped into this.” "The last couple of days, she's been up at the crack of dawn and going around and doing interviews,” he told the network amid her appointment six years ago.

“She not only enjoys it, but she's really comfortable in it," he continued. "I don't really know how you get that. I know I wasn't that way when I started doing interviews and I don't know if Kyra was either, but [Sosie] seems to take to it pretty easily." If that was not enough proof then for the famous parents that Sosie was made to be in front of the camera, we don’t know what else could have been.

The Bacon family is closely knit. In 2018, Sedgwick revealed on The Late Late Show with James Corden that the four of them got a “family tattoo,” a combination of all their initials on it. It's clear the family of four are very close, even working together in Hollywood on many occasions, but to get matching tattoos is taking it to the next level—how adorable! You can see the tattoo here.

The family should count themselves lucky. And as Sosie's career is only really kicking off, it's exciting to think where she could go next. And just imagine how many more opportunities the family will have to work and act together on projects—we can't wait to see!
