Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedgwick Are Still Crazy About Each Other As They Celebrate 38 Years Of Marriage

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have spent nearly four decades proving that sometimes the sweetest love stories are the ones that simply keep going.

The couple first met while working together on the 1987 television movie “Lemon Sky.” Their relationship moved quickly, and they became engaged in December of that year before marrying on Sept. 4, 1988. They went on to welcome two children, Travis, 37, and Sosie, 34.

Sedgwick took a break from acting when her children were born but saw a resurgence of roles after they were older. Nowadays, she and Kevin appear to be enjoying a more chilled-out and rustic life on their Connecticut farm after the kids left the nest.

Sedgwick has previously said that “a sense of humor is crucial” to their relationship, adding that her husband is “very freaking funny.” She has also said the couple simply “got lucky” in finding each other, while stressing the importance of having a sense of wholeness within yourself before allowing someone else to love you.

Their partnership has extended far beyond marriage, too. Earlier this year, the couple reunited professionally to co-direct “Family Movie,” nearly two decades after Bacon last directed a film. Their children joined them on the project, with Sosie and Travis starring alongside their parents.

For Bacon, having Sedgwick beside him behind the camera made the experience all the more enjoyable.

“It was just great because if I missed something or I slipped up or I forgot some detail, she was right there with it,” he told PEOPLE.

Sosie has similarly described both of her parents as respectful collaborators, saying they understand an actor’s process because they are actors themselves. More than 20 years after she made her acting debut in her father’s “Loverboy,” the family was once again working together.

The longtime couple celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary this month with an idyllic canoeing trip, trading red carpets and Hollywood glamour for a quiet day on the water.

Sedgwick, 61, shared two photos from the getaway on Instagram, showing herself and Bacon, 68, relaxing together in a canoe on a scenic lake. Dressed casually in matching plaid overshirts, Sedgwick topped off her look with a baseball cap while Bacon wore sunglasses.

“Perfect anniversary weekend. ❤️ Canoe believe it’s been 38 years?!” Sedgwick wrote in her caption.

Bacon marked the occasion in his own characteristically simple way, sharing a throwback photo of the pair dressed up in the back of a car on their way to the 2006 Emmy Awards.

“38 years with my love,” he wrote alongside the nostalgic snapshot.

Bacon and Sedgwick have also continued to find ways to surprise each other. In June, Bacon said his wife “is constantly surprising me,” praising her willingness to try new things and change her mind rather than becoming stuck in one way of thinking.

After 38 years, Bacon and Sedgwick’s anniversary celebration offered a fitting snapshot of their relationship: a little romance, plenty of humor and no need to make things complicated.

Sometimes, apparently, all you need is the person you love, a canoe and a good joke.

And after 38 years together, the secret to their marriage appears to be less about some grand Hollywood formula and more about laughing, staying curious and enjoying each other’s company.
