A few hours after Kenny's death, social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram were flooded with sad tributes to the fallen icon. Many people took their time to pay homage to the singer and legend. In fact, it became evident that he left an unerasable mark not only in country music but also in the American music industry.

Throughout his long career, Kenny ensured that he worked hard to earn every penny he received, and there is no doubt he had accumulated quite a figure—$250 million to be exact, according to Celebrity Net Worth. After passing on, his wife Wanda Miller received a fraction of the wealth as the rest was divided between their five children. A three-time Grammy award winner, Kenny was wealthy, and his value stood at a significant sum, though his early life had much humbler roots.

Although Kenny was most successful as a musician, many people also admired his kindness and compassion. Although he topped the country and pop charts for many years, Kenny managed to remain humble and was generous in sharing his wealth until his last day on earth. His personality stems from his childhood where he had a troubled upbringing at the backdrop of the Great Depression. Kenny's real name was Kenneth Ray Rogers, and he was born in Houston, Texas, on August 21, 1938.

His family was impoverished, and his parents could not afford to give him a decent life. In fact, they lived in a housing project that was funded by the federal government. He grew up with his six siblings and parents in the housing project situated on the opposite side of the rail tracks.

Speaking about his poor background, Kenny said, 'We were on welfare most of my childhood.' His dad earned a living by working as a carpenter, although he was an alcoholic. His father's addiction to alcohol adversely affected Kenny and the whole family.

Kenny acknowledged that his father was fighting alcoholism when he grew up. As a child, Kenny admitted that he did not understand why his father was drinking that much. However, he later felt that maybe his father resorted to alcoholism because he could not afford to fend for his family. In an interview in 2012, Kenny said that he regretted that he did not get the opportunity to know why his father became an alcoholic before he died.

As a result of his father's alcoholism, Kenny never drank alcohol. Seeing it destroy his father and many people around him made Kenny decide that he would never drink. Kenny was brought up in a poor background, and this offered him something good. He developed an iron will to pursue what he believed in, and it helped him realize what he wanted to achieve in life. In his biography titled Luck or Something Like It, the musician explains bit by bit how his challenging upbringing has shaped his life.

In the book, he says that he thinks the challenges he faced in his childhood made him more determined. He says that his book explores the thin line separating being self-driven and selfish. He says that he believes there are instances when he felt so driven that he would not realize he was becoming selfish and regrets it. He confesses that he made this realization when he was writing the book.

From an early age, Kenny had decided what he wanted to pursue in life. As early as in high school, Kenny had made up his mind that he wanted to be a singer. Although he knew what he wanted to become, Kenny did not receive all he achieved on a silver platter. He had to work hard and pursue his dreams of becoming a musician.

Before he became a famous musician, Kenny used to work as a busboy. He was stationed at the Rice Hotel that is within Houston. He also worked as a cleaner in a hat shop. Kenny confesses that he did not learn financial literacy as a youth. In fact, he revealed that he used to spend every penny he earned without any savings.

Among his siblings, Kenny was the first one to graduate from high school. He started his first music band towards the end of the 1950s where he had a group known as 'The Scholars.' Kenny was not the lead singer in the band, although he had his spotlight number known as Moonlight in Vermont. The band managed to release a few local hits that they sold within Houston. At this time, Kenny had started to enjoy stardom and the fruits of his music. As a result, he had become quite popular among local girls.

In 2014, Kenny's brother, Lelan, remembered one of the highlights of his early music career by reflecting on an incident that occurred during a local concert. He recalled that during that particular concert, many girls were in attendance and kept screaming. His wife leaned unto him and told him, 'There is your star.' He responded by saying, 'That's no star, it's just my kid brother.'

In 1958, Kenny experienced some success in his music career after recording his single hit song That Crazy Feeling. That same year, he was featured in American Bandstand, which was a popular music program at the time. At the onset of his career, Kenny explored different styles of music genres. He once played bass within a jazz group and experimented with folk-style pop by joining New Christy Minstrels in 1996.

Kenny experienced mainstream success during the mid-1970s when he embarked on a solo career to become a household name. In 1977, he released the ballad Lucille, which was his first country music hit. The song would later earn him his first Grammy Award. In 1978, Kenny released his hit song The Gambler, which also won him another Grammy.

Kenny's career will continue to live on, and thankfully we can all appreciate what he gave to the world through his music forever.
