On the July 15, 2025, episode of the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, Kelly Ripa addressed the idea of her adult children being considered nepo babies, explaining why she doesn’t see it as a negative label. Ripa, who shares three grown children with her husband, actor Mark Consuelos, offered thoughtful insight into how fame has shaped her family’s experience.

During the podcast, Ripa also reflected on how longtime viewers of her show have formed a unique connection with her children over the years.

“Our children are fully aware. They’ll meet people on the street that will come up to them and say, ‘I watched you grow up. It is such a pleasure to see you as an adult,’” she shared.

“When my kids were little, they had the opportunity to come on and do, like, little segments... and people got a glimpse into their lives. And then they grew up, and they move on, and they move out, and they move out of the country in some cases, and people don’t get to regularly check in with them,” she elaborated.

She emphasized how the public felt emotionally invested.

“And so I feel like, once in a while, it’s important to sort of let people in because I feel like they had a group experience. My kids had a group childhood. It was like they had lots of aunties, lots of uncles, lots of grandparents,” she remarked.

“It wasn’t just our parents and our siblings. They had, like, America and Canada raising them in some way,” she continued, adding, “And so and (the viewers) really looked out for them and rooted for them, and they are fully aware of that.”

During her appearance on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, Ripa touched on privilege, acknowledging that her children being free of student loans was a financial reality she found “comfort” in.

Ripa also offered a candid look into how she and her husband, Mark, have raised their three children – Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin Consuelos, 22 – with a strong sense of gratitude and perspective, despite their family’s fame and financial comfort.

“I think my kids feel, like, very fortunate in general,” Ripa said, highlighting how her children were aware of the advantages they’ve had growing up. She specifically pointed out that “they don’t have student loans,” a financial burden many young adults face.

Opening up to host Amanda Hirsch, the “Live with Kelly and Mark” co-host emphasized the relief her children felt knowing they weren’t beginning adulthood in debt.

“There’s, like, a comfort in knowing my kids got to graduate knowing that they weren’t having to climb out of a mountain of debt,” she explained, adding they were “so appreciative and so grateful.”

Despite their ability to provide their children a financially secure life, Ripa noted that she and Mark made intentional choices to keep their children grounded.

“I also think we kept their worlds really normal when they were young,” she said.

She also reflected on their parenting approach.

“They always, from the earliest ages they could, had part-time jobs, always. And ... in their friend circle, they were like the only ones to have jobs,” she stated.

The longtime television star made it clear that while privilege existed, effort and humility were equally valued in their home, an approach that shaped how their children view work and responsibility today.
