The recent November 9 episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” saw Clarkson taking on a legendary rock ballad, as she tackled Aerosmith's "Dream On." Every day on her NBC talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Clarkson covers a song made famous by another artist.

Over the course of the show, the “Kellyoke” segment has seen the singing host take on songs by Bon Jovi, Johnny Cash, Reba, Dolly Parton, and the B-52's. Clarkson consistently displays the ability to make any song from any genre her own, which is why her latest cover was such a success.

On November 9, Clarkson took center stage as the familiar guitar intro to the Aerosmith rock classic “Dream On” began to softly play behind her. Within seconds, it was obvious that Aerosmith was about to be added to Clarkson's list of successful covers.

Sporting a flowing black top that would make Steven Tyler jealous, paired with some classy black slacks, Clarkson stepped to the mic and effortlessly let the familiar lyrics, “Every time I look in the mirror” flow, quickly leaving the crowd awestruck. By the end of the song, the “American Idol” alumnus had proven that she’s far more than the pop star that America fell in love with so many years ago.

One of the parts of “Kellyoke” that people love the most is when Clarkson adds her own unique twist to that day’s song of choice. Much like the original, Clarkson began the song in a low, sultry tone. However, once she got to the chorus, the songstress kicked things up a notch and added her own unique blend of high notes and falsettos, leaving audience members and TV viewers speechless.

The members of the studio audience weren’t the only ones blown away by this epic cover; social media quickly blew up with viewers who were mind-blown by the rendition. Once the performance ended, within a matter of minutes, both YouTube and Twitter were filled with comments praising the performance.

“I am out of breath just watching this. Damn Kelly!” tweeted one user. Another described the performance as “crazy” declaring that Clarkson had caused them to have a heart attack. YouTube was just as busy with people who enjoyed the cover, as one user’s review raved about how “THOSE NOTES WERE SO EPIC!!!! And SO CLEAR!!!!! VOCALSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!” (No, we didn’t add the caps lock and the excessive exclamation points, but they do serve their purpose).

Viewers who watched the episode with the “Dream On” performance also took to social media to discuss some confusion. During the episode, Clarkson was sporting a unique accessory that didn’t appear during the epic performance: an eyepatch. There’s an easy explanation, and like everything in 2020, it can be traced back to the production-halting coronavirus pandemic.

Clarkson’s eyepatch stemmed from an injury that she suffered just before pre-filming a group of segments in September. Clarkson explained the use of the eyepatch in an interview with California Live, while also throwing in a nod to a Will Smith movie, “Something got in there, maybe cut it, did something. It got infected. It looked like Hitch, you know that movie?”

Due to the sudden change in the world of filming and production, the “American Idol” alumnus turned daytime talk show host explained that episodes were not necessarily being aired in the order in which they were filmed. That leaves the possibility that fans may see a re-emergence of the eye patch in later episodes, even though Clarkson is no longer using it.

During the filming period in September, they filmed six episodes of her daytime show over the course of three days. Clarkson recognizes the potential for confusion when parts of those episodes are mixed in with those which were filmed AP (After Patch). "I’m gonna randomly be wearing a patch, like on a random Tuesday and people are going to be like, ‘She needs to figure out her eye situation,’” said Clarkson.

Always able to make light of her own situation, there is no question as to why "The Kelly Clarkson Show" and especially the “Kellyoke” segment have become such a huge part of daytime TV for Americans who find themselves spending more time than ever at home.
