She might be a world-famous country music diva but, for Kelly Clarkson, it’s the little things that matter.
The 38-year-old doesn’t need any gifs or extravagant expressions of gratitude from her family this Mother’s Day. In fact, all she wants is to relax and enjoy some quality time with her children – without any of the responsibilities of being a mom, that is.

This week, Kelly Clarkson spoke to People magazine about how she plans to spend Mother’s day this year. The singer said that just like for her 38th birthday, all she wants is a little downtime.
“'Look, I don't want to make one meal. I don't want to take care of one child. I don't want to do anything. I want to sit in bed and I want to just relax and I want to read or watch something or do whatever I want to do,' " she recalled telling her husband.

Clarkson and her husband, Brandon Blackstock, have been isolating at their Montana Ranch along with their children. The singer said that although she years for some ‘alone time’ on her special day, she is nevertheless grateful to be surrounded by family amid the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting isolation measures. "... Because I have a lot of friends that are single that live alone and ... it's emotionally draining, just being by yourself all the time," she admitted.
"I'm thankful on the other hand that I have people in my house that I can talk to. But for Mother's Day, I'm definitely going to [tell Blackstock], 'Can you just do everything so I don't have to?' " she added.
The 38-year-old is currently recording music for her new album – which also features a guest appearance from her daughter, River. According to Clarkson, River barged into the studio while her mom was in the middle of recording her new song, I Dare You.
"We build the track and my daughter comes in ... and she's like, 'I want to sing.' So she went in the studio and she just started singing all this random stuff, so she might be featured on my next album," the singer said.
"She's very much into, like, 'Why do they want your picture? Why do they want you to sing? Why don't they want my picture? Why can't I sing?' I'm like, 'Oh, Lord.' "
Despite her sass, however, Clarkson says she couldn’t be more proud of River. “She's very passionate and can drive me insane, but [I] don't want to break that spirit in her because it's going to do her well later in life,” the doting mom said.
