Kelly Clarkson first became a household name in 2002 following her win on the hit competition series “American Idol.” Since then, the singer has gone on to sell millions of copies of her albums and tour across the world. Some of her most notable hits include “Since U Been Gone,” “My Life Would Suck Without You,” and “Because Of You.”
With an incredible vocal tone and range, Clarkson has easily become one of the best and most recognizable singers in the world.
When Clarkson first entered the music industry, she had a very girl-next-door look with a bit of an edge. Like most superstars, her look and style changed as the years progressed, and Clarkson discovered more sides of herself.
Along with being a highly accomplished singer, Clarkson has also appeared in a variety of films and TV shows and has gone on to become one of the most beloved women in the entertainment industry due to her hilarious personality and charming wit. She went on to become a judge for another singing competition series called “The Voice,” and is even the host of her own talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
Aside from interviewing celebrities on her talk show, she has made sure that she can still show the world how powerful a vocalist and singer she is. In a February 2023 episode of Clarkson’s show, she invited P!nk on her “Songs and Stories,” a segment where they both delve deeper into the guests’ songs and what’s the inspiration behind them.
During the interview, the two hopped onto a soul-stirring duet of P!nk’s 2017 hit song, “What About Us,” after explaining what prompted her to write and record the song.

Alecia Beth Moore, who is known professionally as P!nk, is no stranger to the spotlight. At 43 years old, she has been a presence in the entertainment industry since 1995.
Known for her distinctive, raspy voice and tough, alternative exterior, P!nk has won three Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards, a Daytime Emmy Award, and seven MTV Video Music Awards, including the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. She has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the world’s best-selling music artists of all time.
In Clarkson’s introduction of P!nk, she admitted that she was her favorite artist of her generation after listing her accolades that make the latter revered in the music industry.
The two, who are both mothers, bonded over their parenthood woes and also their love of music.
One of the songs they touched on was P!nk’s 2017 song “What About Us.” The 43-year-old singer revealed where she was at the time she wrote the song:
“We’re not listening to each other right now, and it’s so loud and so gross and angry,” she explained. “And people are being forgotten, people are being counted out, and their rights are being trampled on just because a group of people doesn’t believe in them.”
Somewhere along her explanation, P!nk also pointed out that she did not understand how people treat each other differently on one’s differing opinions, also revealing the most memorable lesson that her father has taught her.
“One of the most beautiful things that my dad taught me was that my voice matters and I can make a difference, and I will. One person can change a lot,” P!nk furthered. “I think if we all had a chance to experience each other more, it would be a lot different.”

P!nk also invited her close collaborator and guitarist, Justin Derrico, who Clarkson had the chance to work with on “The Voice,” too.
Clarkson also mentioned that lyrically, the song already gave the listeners a hint of what it was about, but P!nk’s explanation gave the theme more context.
As the two started singing, the crowd fell silent, waiting for P!nk and Clarkson to start the song.
“We are searchlights, we can see in the dark. We are rockets, pointed up at the stars. We are billions of beautiful hearts, and you sold us down the river too far. What about us?” they sang. “What about all the times you said you had the answers? What about all the broken happy ever afters? What about all the plans that ended in disaster? What about love?”
A review of the 2017 song from The New York Times said P!nk let the emotion in her tremendous voice do the heavy lifting” as she shifted “wonder to frustration to anger.”
Fans of both music superstars have taken to the comment section and expressed their appreciation to the duo, noting that they wanted more of them!
“Pink & Kelly should do an entire record together! As always, Kelly’s the perfect duet partner, beautifully blending & gracious to whoever she’s singing with,” a fan suggested.
“I hope this episode goes viral and everybody talks about it for ages, these two don’t get the praise they deserve in this industry. Besides, they are so fun together and confortable (sic) and real. I just love them,” another commented.
“Their voices fits so well, they have a very very similar color, the difference is in the register, Kelly is a soprano Pink and Pink is a mezzo Kelly. They should really give us more duets,” someone shared.
