Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant Open Up About Love and Art and the Exchange Between Them Is Pure Magic

Keanu Reeves has spent most of his adult life being one of the most private major stars in Hollywood. He rarely gives interviews, rarely discusses his personal life, and has spent decades deflecting questions about his happiness with the kind of quiet composure that has become as much a part of his public identity as any role he has played. That composure started to shift when Alexandra Grant entered the picture.

Reeves, born Sept. 2, 1964, and Grant, born April 4, 1973, first connected professionally through the book "Ode to Happiness" — a text Reeves wrote and Grant illustrated. They went on to co-found a publishing house together, gX press, and were first photographed as a couple at the LACMA Art and Film Gala in November 2019. Since then they have been one of the more genuinely private celebrity couples — appearing together selectively, always at arts events, always with the quiet ease of two people who have nothing to prove.

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, they attended the MOCA Gala at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Los Angeles — one of their regular haunts, a museum both have supported for years. Reeves wore a dark navy suit with a striped tie. Grant wore a black satin skirt and matching jacket with statement jewelry and her signature silver hair worn down. They arrived arm in arm, smiling, and as at ease with each other as anyone who has watched them together over the past seven years has come to expect.

Then they stopped to speak with the press and what they said about each other, and about what this relationship has done to their work, was the kind of thing that rarely makes it into a red carpet interview.

Grant was asked whether she believed, as she had previously suggested, that her art had changed since the relationship began. She did not hesitate.

"I would definitely say that my paintings become happier,"

she told PEOPLE. "I have to admit that."

Reeves was asked the same question — whether his art had changed. The actor, who has long resisted grand declarations, gave an answer consistent with everything he has ever said in public. "I don't know if it has," he said. Then he was asked whether Grant was an easy woman to love. Without pause: "Yes!"

The exchange captured something that has taken years to become visible. Grant, whose work has been exhibited in galleries across the country, has built a life and career that existed entirely independently of Reeves long before their relationship became public. "The good news about falling in love as an adult is that I had built my own career by the time that my relationship had begun," she told PEOPLE in 2023. "I feel very confident in the relationship on the red carpet. I feel confident on it alone."

In September 2025, Grant took to Instagram to shut down persistent marriage rumors. "I couldn't take it anymore!" she said with a laugh. "I was like, Ok, we're going to do this thing, and that's going to stop it." She confirmed they really love each other — and confirmed, clearly, that no, they are not married.

What they are, by every account, is exactly what Grant described at the start of their public life together: interdependent and independent, in the best ways.
