Kayakers Rescue Puppies Found In Sack Floating Down River

It was meant to be a day of great outdoor adventure when two kayakers first set out on the Blackstone River in Massachusetts, but then things took a turn for the worse. When they first saw a potato sack floating toward them on the river, they didn’t think much of it. Then, the kayakers realized something quite disturbing.

Whimpering noises were coming from inside of the sack. Fearful of what they were about to discover, the two paddled hurriedly toward the whimpering sack. One of the kayakers pulled the bag into his boat and ripped it open. Inside were six adorable newborn puppies.

The abandoned and abused puppies were reported to the police. In a comment to reporters, the chief of police stated, “This was an unimaginably cruel act. Despite all of my years as a police officer, I was dumbfounded that someone actually did that. What monster tries to drown a litter of newborn puppies?”

Thankfully, the kayakers were in the right place at the right time to save them. A rescue facility took the pups in, but they weren’t in the clear just yet. A mixture of dog formula, goat’s milk, and probiotics helped most of the puppies to gain strength and begin to grow as healthy dogs do.

One puppy was not as lucky as the rest. He was sick and needed additional medication due to an infection. To everyone’s relief, with antibiotics, he too began to grow healthy just like his brothers and sisters.

Word spread fast about the brave little pups. The police department was flooded with an outpouring of good wishes for the little ones and requests to adopt them.

"We are overwhelmed by the responses with regards to the puppies found yesterday. We have such a caring and great community and we appreciate everyone's outpouring support and concern for the puppies," the Uxbridge Police Department said in an updated statement. "We would like to remind everyone to please consider the many many dogs looking for loving homes in the many area shelters here locally and beyond."
