Katy Perry is a beloved pop star who has been a pivotal figure in the entertainment industry since the late 2000s. In 2008, she released her second album, "One of the Boys," containing hits such as "I Kissed a Girl" and "Hot n Cold," propelling her to stardom. Perry followed the successful record with yet another and even more popular album in 2010 called "Teenage Dream." The album has gone on to be recognized as one of the great pop albums in history, containing five No. 1 singles – "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework," "E.T." and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)."
With such a great collection of hits under her belt, it's easy to see how Perry is one of the best-selling artists of all time, selling more than 143 million records across the world. On top of that, she is the recipient of several awards and accolades and is still recognized for her outstanding Super Bowl halftime show.
Over the years, Perry has continued to show off more of her talents by delving into the world of acting. She is also currently one of the three judges on "American Idol" alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
The pop star has had several public relationships over the years and is currently engaged to actor Orlando Bloom, and the two have one child together. However, she was previously married to comedian Russell Brand, and their divorce left her completely heartbroken and devastated. Fortunately, the end of her marriage ultimately led her to the path she's on today.

Perry first met Brand in 2009 while filming a cameo for the film "Get Him to the Greek," in which Brand was starring. The two hit it off and began dating shortly afterward and were engaged by the end of the year. Perry and Brand tied the knot in October 2010 but announced their divorce after 14 months of marriage. The divorce was finalized in 2012.
Aspects of their relationship were seen in Perry's tour documentary "Katy Perry: Part of Me." According to InStyle, Russell's appearances were far and few, showing just how absent he was in their relationship. Perry also expressed the hardships of balancing a huge tour along with a seemingly falling apart marriage.
One part of the documentary shows the singer receiving a text message from Brand declaring that he wanted a divorce. Perry was visibly distraught, crying and shaking, moments before she needed to get on stage to perform. Rather than canceling the show, she put on a brave face and sang her heart out to a welcoming crowd.
In 2020, Perry opened up about how her and Brand's busy schedules ultimately led to their divorce. "I was having great success at 23, 24 and 25 and then I met someone that was interesting and stimulating," she said, as per PEOPLE. "It was just like a tornado, it was everything happening at once."
Speaking with Vogue back in 2013, Perry shared more insights into the downfall of her and Russell's relationship. "At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they're like, I can't handle the equalness," she said.

Perry continued:
"He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting. I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can't necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day. I let go and I was like: This isn't because of me; this is beyond me. So I have moved on from that."
It's evident that Perry has definitely moved on as she is now engaged to Bloom. She called their relationship "a healthy frictional, very open, very communicative, nothing is swept under the mat type of relationship." The pair first started dating back in 2016 and got engaged in 2019.
In August 2020, the couple welcomed their first child together named Daisy Dove. Perry was 35 years old at the time, while Bloom was 43. Bloom has a son from his previous marriage to supermodel Miranda Kerr. According to the Mirror, Perry and Bloom chose actress Jennifer Aniston to be the godmother of their daughter, as she has been a huge supporter of them and their relationship.
Perry, who was once heartbroken over a failed marriage, has definitely come full circle and is celebrating all of the wonderful aspects of her life with Bloom and their family. On May 9, 2021, she tweeted about her very first Mother's Day. The singer said, "I found everything I was ever searching for when I became a mother. So grateful for that profound, deep love and honored to join the mama club. Happiest Mother's Day."
