During the state funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II, the newly ascended Princess of Wales, Catherine "Kate" Middleton, wore a necklace that struck the attention of many close followers of the British royal family. According to Yahoo News, the jewelry Princess Kate wore possessed a significant family meaning that is rooted down from Queen Elizabeth II herself.

Kate Middleton has shown grace and poise for as long as she’s been together with Prince William. As the woman who is married to a future king and the mother of another, Kate has ascended to a very prominent role within the royal family. Her position became much more active after she and William wed over ten years ago.

Now, with the recent passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 8, 2022, Prince William and Kate Middleton have taken on new roles following the ascension of King Charles III to the throne. Prince William is now the first in line to the throne as the firstborn of the King. On the other hand, Kate Middleton is now the most recent person to become Princess of Wales after the death of his husband’s mother, Princess Diana, in 1997. Meanwhile, their children are in succession. Prince George is the second one in succession, followed by Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, then William's brother Prince Harry respectively.

While many mourned the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, some see a silver lining following her passing: a moment to celebrate the simple life she had lived while serving the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms until her last breath.

For those who followed Queen Elizabeth's personal life, her reunion with the love of her life, Prince Philip, marks the end of perhaps one of the most remarkable love stories in Royal history.

Similarly, during Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral, foreign dignitaries, members of the extended British royal family, and even civilians were allowed to grace Westminster Hall in London on Sept. 19, 2022. The British Royal Family’s fashion during the state funeral has also sparked the attention of many people, including fashion magazines decoding the significance of their wardrobes in the historic moment.

According to PEOPLE Magazine, the outfit that Kate Middleton wore at Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral was something that she had already worn before. Kate Middleton wore a White version of the Alexander McQueen dress on the Trooping the Colour, an event held during the queen’s Platinum Jubilee last June 2022.

Insider reported that the Princess of Wales had altered popular fashionable looks over the years to make them more modest while retaining a high sense of style. She is also known for recycling her older looks to make them more appropriate and fashionable. "Kate enjoys adjusting outfits to suit current trends. She will quite often add a bow, remove a keyhole, or change the length of skirts or sleeves to make them her own," Anthony McGrath told the publication.

In this case, the dress was the same but in inverted colors, signifying the mood of the event – she wore the white one during a particularly happy occasion during the Platinum. Fittingly, she donned the black one during the queen’s passing.

Meanwhile, what stood out more in Princess Kate Middleton’s outfit was what hung from her lovely neck and what was dangling from her ears.

Glamour reported that the earrings that Kate wore during the funeral were jewelry that came from the late Queen Elizabeth II. The Bahrain pearl drop earrings were given by the Halim of Bahrain on her wedding day in 1947 with the late Prince Phillip.

Unlike the earrings, the necklace that Princess Kate wore holds a more prominent meaning not just to her but to the women of the Royal family.

According to Yahoo News, the earrings and necklace that Princess Kate Middleton wore during the funeral were a repeat outfit from an event from the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last Jun. 2, 2022, the Trooping the Colour.

Turns out, the pearl necklace also came from Queen Elizabeth II, which was already on long-term-loan with Princess Kate Middleton. In choosing to wear the necklace at the funeral, Kate decided to honor not only one royal but two women – her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, and Queen Elizabeth II.

Initially, the Four-Row Japanese Choker necklace was given to the queen in the 1970s as a gift from Japan. She has worn it multiple times, notably during a state visit to Bangladesh in 1983. Princess Diana has also borrowed the necklace once or twice before, including on a visit to The Netherlands in 1982.

Nicknamed the “peacemaker” in her family, Princess Kate Middleton has stayed true to her epithet in deciding to honor both Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II with the jewelry she consciously selected for the funeral. This just proves how much the newly-ascended Princess of Wales has valued her relationship with the queen and her late mother-in-law.
