Kate Middleton Strayed Away From Various Royal Traditions To Prioritize Her Children
Dec 01, 2022 by apost team
Kate Middleton is known for many things as a senior member of the royal family; from her impeccable taste in fashion to her passion for causes, Kate has proven herself to be an excellent queen consort in the making. However, her role as a mother to her three children, Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4, has made her a fan favorite as well. Kate has beautifully balanced her duties of work and motherhood well.
The same can be said about Prince William, who has shown that he is an incredible father to all of his children. Kate and William have done their best to keep their personal life private and show just how much of a normal family they actually are. However, with such a prime spot in the public eye, it was only time until people began to notice the ways in which the Prince and Princess of Wales acted toward their three adorable children. Throughout their many outings and interactions as a family, the royal couple has shown nothing but love, affection, and support for each other and their kids.
Having their whole life in the public eye, the royal family announced their move from Kensington Palace to Windsor at the beginning of the children’s school year in September 2022.
But throughout the years, many have taken notice of Kate’s personal touch on choosing what’s best for her children, who are now the second, third, and fourth in line to the throne, even though it somehow strays away from royal tradition. Read on to learn more about what specific changes Kate has made for her family in the past few years.

From making sure their children are seen by making eye contact with them to keeping them protected from the cameras by shielding them, Kate and William have shown time and time again that they are incredible parents to their children, and even though they are royalty, they are surprisingly normal parents as well.
While William and Kate are thoroughly aware of their privileged status, they make sure their kids are raised in a down-to-earth manner.
A source close to the royal family told Us Weekly, “William and Kate very much prioritize bringing up the children in as normal an environment as possible over anything else. … They haven’t lost sight of that.”
In an effort to raise their children in a “normal” environment, Kate and William have decided to change up a few things for their family. These include spending more time with them and getting into much deeper detail on the way they want their kids to learn and grow.
Believe it or not, there is a protocol in place as to when royal male children can wear trousers publicly. Per Harper’s Bazaar, boys have to wear shorts and knee-high socks until they are about 8 years old. However, in the past years, both Louis and George have been seen wearing trousers already despite not reaching the said age.
Like the mom she is, Kate has also been spotted numerous times trying to get a hold of her children in public. As many would expect, kids can be a bit unruly and a bit wild at some times, but Kate, despite her royal status, isn’t afraid to discipline her children once in a while when they are not behaving properly, depending on the occasion, according to GoodtoKnow.

But aside from those, what other believed to be the most notable tradition break that the Prince and Princess of Wales had done was choosing the schools for their children.
In the past, royal children were shipped away from a far area to study and attend a preparatory school. For example, King Charles attended Gordonstound School in Scotland, like his father, Prince Phillip. While this is also expected for George and his siblings, Willam and Kate opted to send him to Thomas Battersea.
Although it is not a strictly-held tradition, young royals were sent off to schools that were already attended by others in the family. This is a tradition that the Wales family has strayed away from. Shortly after George attended Battersea, his sister Charlotte also attended it, too.
Making them the first siblings of different genders who have attended a co-ed school together. It was only after when the family announced that they would be moving to Windsor from Kensington last October 2022 that the parents decided to move them to Lambrook School.
The move to choose one’s school based on personal preferences is something expected of Kate, who has shown how hands-on she is in running her family.
Education expert Murray Morrison, the founder of Tassomai, explained to Express UK his analysis of this move by the then-Duchess of Cambridge.
“Their choice suggests to me that they are a family like any other, choosing what they felt to be the best option for their children rather than simply doing what their parents did,” he shared. "It suggests that the Royal Family continues to evolve. It shows that they are not hide-bound and simply repeating choices handed down over generations."
