Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 25th anniversary of youth mental health charity Place2Be on March 9. The excited students from New North Academy in Islington and Salusbury Primary School in north-west London greeted Kate when she arrived. The children, joined by musicians from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, were to perform an original anthem for the Duchess. Ahead of the performance, Kate offered some words of encouragement and talked a bit about her own children.

Two school choirs were scheduled to perform during the charity event. The Duchess was there to show her support and talk to supporters of Place2Be, which focuses on supporting children with mental health problems and improving chilren's mental health. Kate started supporting the charity back in 2013 and has met many supporters but also children during the time since.

Along with her usual hosting duties, the 38-year-old royal shared an inspiring and heartwarming speech with the attendees, including teachers and students from Salusbury Primary School, New North Academy, and Cranbrook School. She spoke at length about the effects she had personally witnessed the charity to have when she visited the partnering schools. She went on to mention that being Place2Be's patron had taught her a lot:
"You also taught me that it's the simplest things that make a difference to children. It’s the quality time that is spent with them. It’s the time you take to listen to them. It is trusting relationships that have the most profound impact on the emotional and mental wellbeing of a child."

As she greeted all the attendees and welcomed the children who were soon to sing, Kate found out that two of the kids actually had their birthday on the day of the gala. She immediately went on to joke that she should be the one to sing for them, not the other way around. Then she added that "Happy Birthday" is actually one of Prince Louis' favorite songs.
