Kate Middleton's Gown At 2020 BAFTA’S Red Carpet Has Royal Fans Torn

As celebrities made appearances at this year's British Academy Film Awards’ red carpet, one particular Duchess has managed to spark some controversy with her choice of garment - Kate Middleton. 

Kate Middleton and her husband Prince William attended last night's BAFTAs as guests of honor. The royal couple was met by fans, celebrities, and journalists on the red carpet prior to the awards ceremony, where the Duke and Duchess dazzled in a sustainable ensemble. 

The Duchess Of Cambridge sported a long white gown featuring golden details for her much-awaited appearance on the red carpet.

Although many fans thought the Duchess of Cambridge looked great in the gown, others took to social media to express their dismay.

"Love them but really dislike the gown However, HRH Duchess Catherine shines regardless of gown and Prince William looks handsome in his Tux," wrote one Twitter user.

"Not my favourite dress but she looks great," said another.

While some might have expressed their dislike for the Duchess' choice of gown, other fans seemingly disagreed.

"She added a little bit of volume to the sleeves and it makes quite a positive difference," wrote one fan on Twitter.

According to the Independent, the BAFTAs asked guests attending this year to wear a sustainable outfit, in support of its attempt to be a carbon-neutral awards ceremony. 

The Duchess donned the Alexander McQueen original for a second time, in line with the new sustainability guideline. The gown was previously worn by the Duchess in 2012 at a dinner hosted by Malaysia’s head of state.

The London College of Fashion suggested guests either re-wear an outfit from a past event or rent an ensemble. Various renting websites were also suggested as well as a number of sustainable fashion brands. 

This year’s award ceremony will also serve vegan food exclusively.
