On Tuesday, January 28, 2020, the Duchess of Cambridge visited the Evelina London Children’s Hospital to participate in some of the creative art workshops that the National Portrait Gallery offers the young patients at the hospital. It comes at no surprise that this occasion is Kate Middleton’s second royal engagement of the year as she is a patron of each of the facilities, the Evelina London Children’s Hospital and the National Portrait Gallery.

When Kate Middleton arrived at the hospital she was welcomed by a little girl that greeted her with a bouquet of flowers. The Duchess looked gorgeous. She was dressed in a tweed skirt suit by Dolce & Gabbana paired with pumps by Gianvito Rossi and silver earrings by Mappin & Webb.

After being led into the hospital Kate Middleton got to know more about the hospital’s collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery. The Gallery developed a hospital programme that offers arts and crafts workshops at London children’s hospitals, bringing in experienced artists that know how to respond to the needs of the young patients.

With this program, the National Portrait Gallery is trying to ensure the happiness and wellbeing of children and their families whilst they are undergoing hospital treatment. The patients, their siblings, and families can attend workshops such as photography, painting, sculpture or animation.

During her visit, Kate Middleton assisted the young patients in designing their own pop-up theaters and helped them craft little characters. The Duchess even posed for pictures so that the children were able to improve their photography skills.

Luke, a 10-year-old patient at the hospital, gifted Kate Middleton a “rag wreath" that was handmade by himself and his 4-year-old sister Savannah. As Hello Magazine reports, the young boy who is treated for a congenital heart condition, actually raised nearly £15,000 by selling wreaths that he makes out of scraps of fabric and other initiatives. All the money Luke raises is donated to the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

Luke was more than thrilled to meet the Duchess of Cambridge, as he told Hello Magazine:

"We just really wanted to say thank you to the Duchess for coming and spending time here. She was really touched, I think. I told her that I had the same birthday as her son, (Prince) George, and my sister is four, like (Princess) Charlotte. She said Charlotte would love to have the pink wreath up in her room. It would be amazing if they did that."
