Kate Middleton Is In Self-Isolation After Coming Into Contact With Covid Positive Person

Kate Middleton, 39, is currently in self-isolation after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for Covid, Kensington Palace announced today. The Duchess of Cambridge will be unable to attend a service of thanksgiving at St Paul's cathedral today as well as a Big Tea garden party scheduled for this afternoon at Buckingham Palace that she was supposed to host together with her husband Prince William.

The Duchess is not currently experiencing any symptoms of illness, but she is following all relevant government guidelines for Covid and self-isolating at home as required.

Kate was forced to cancel two events today due to her self-isolation. In an ironic twist of fate, the first event is set to celebrate NHS heroes who have come into contact with Corona-positive patients during the pandemic.

Kate, who has tested negative so far, was reportedly alerted on Friday afternoon and immediately entered isolation. Kensington Palace has so far not revealed where or when exactly the Duchess came in contact with someone positive. The only information given states it was 'last week', suggesting it could have happened during her visit to Wimbledon on Friday. Kensington Palace also stated the duchess followed the rules about mask wearing and required distancing throughout her Wimbledon visit. It is currently not known whether the duchess was alerted via the NHS app, a phone call from the UK test and trace system or if the person who tested positive contacted her personally.

Kate has already received both vaccinations. Just last week, she took two lateral flow tests before attending the England vs Germany soccer game at Wembley stadium on Tuesday.

She was tested again on Friday just before she visited Wimbledon. Both tests were negative.

According to the Daily Mail, a palace source stated Kate was "sad" to miss the events today that will mark the 73rd anniversary of the NHS. Her last public event was last week: a Wimbledon visit on Friday during which she toured the venue, met staff in the attached museum and sat with former tennis star Tim Henman while watching Jamie Murray play in the doubles. Kate herself is a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club and a big tennis fan. Unfortunately, she is now very likely to miss the Men's and Women's final taking place this weekend.

As a senior royal with many social obligations and events, Kate is tested twice weekly with lateral flow tests in accordance with the Royal Household testing regime. This is meant to catch any Covid exposure that might slip through the gaps.

Her husband William will still join the other guests, including leading figures for the NHS pandemic response as well as several hundred members of frontline NHS staff, and former patients.

He will also go on to host the NHS Big Tea on the grounds of Buckingham Palace which will pay tribute to the hard work of NHS staff who have gone above and beyond during the pandemic.

He is able to still attend both events because the British government guidelines state that contacts of contacts are not required to isolate themselves. Prince William already contracted Covid last spring, when he was able to carry on his royal work via telephone and online sessions while he received treatment from royal doctors. However, he was reportedly hit "pretty hard" by the virus, at one stage even struggling to breathe properly.
