Kate Middleton Gets Sporty With Former Olympian Jessica Ennis-Hill In London Stadium Race

The Duchess of Cambridge showed off her sporty side as she hit the athletics tracks with Olympian Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, for a special charity run in London.

The 38-year-old Duchess of Cambridge has always been a lover of sport. According to The Telegraph, she became an Olympic ambassador in 2012, where she first met Jessica Ennis-Hill. Kate later became the patron of charity SportsAid in 2013.

Former heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill, 34, who retired in 2016, also attended the event. Other notable atheletes such as swimmer Rebecca Adlington and taekwondo athlete Lutalo Muhammad also took part.

Kate first took to the running tracks with Jessica, smiling as she left the blocks, then learnt how to pack a punch with taekwondo hopeful Lutalo Muhammad. It looks like she thoroughly enjoyed herself!

A blog post on the SportsAid website states the event was organised to celebrate the people behind the scenes of sporting powers – namely their parents and guardians. Parents are often "the team behind the team," as they provide unwavering support to ensure their children get to accomplish their dreams, and the charity provides them with emotional guidance, expert coaching, and financial help.

Kate later gave a speech showing her empathy for the parents of the athletes, reports the Daily Mail. Being a parent to three young children herself, she understands the challenges faced with making sure they achieve their full potential.

"For all of you here, you go, and have gone, above and beyond the call of duty; you’ve committed your time and devotion to nurturing your children’s exceptional talents. And as a parent, I have a huge admiration for you and I know just how complex and time-consuming your role is," the Duchess told the audience.
