Princess Diana is still considered a true style icon, not just to women around the world but to those in the royal family as well. Although Kate Middleton never met her mother-in-law before Diana's untimely passing in 1997, it's clear she's played a strong influence on her, especially sartorially. With her signature coiffed hair, appreciation of bright patterns, admiration for creative necklaces, and ability to make any dress look classy, everyone can admit that Princess Diana was a fashion icon.
Many publications, such as Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Elle and similar magazines, covered the People's Princess's often daring fashion choices in detail while she was still alive. And even decades later, she is still regarded as one of the big fashion icons and style legends of the 20th century. Diana's simple yet elegant style has inspired countless people. Other prominent, younger members of the royal family are still regularly compared to her, such as her daughter-in-law, Kate.
The now-Princess of Wales, Kate, has been a favorite among royal fans ever since she married Prince William in 2011. After her wedding, she gracefully took on the role of a senior member of the royal family, and one of the things she is best known for is her impeccable sense of style. From coat dresses to skirt suits, she has added her own signature style to every outfit she chooses.
But aside from the beautiful dresses that she has worn as a royal, Kate has also continued to honor the female members of the British royal family that have come before her in ways people could clearly remember.

When William is set to take the throne and become king, Kate will most likely be referred to as Queen Consort, according to Town & Country. On top of that, The Telegraph reported that Kate may inherit Diana's famous moniker: "The Duchess, naturally, has been endlessly compared to Diana … all have led to whispers of a new 'People's Princess.'"
Kate has already proven to be a great asset to the royal family, and as Page Six reported, "The Diana Chronicles" author Tina Brown said the future of the British kingdom is now resting on the "slim shoulders" of Kate. She remains true to herself while she makes way for the possibility that she may become the Queen Consort in the next decade or two.
Actually, Kate has, on many occasions, emulated the looks of her late mother-in-law — something that many of Diana’s longtime fans have appreciated. On a visit to Lahore, Pakistan in 1996, Princess Diana wore a simple white outfit and headscarf while visiting the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital. Then in September 2012, Kate covered up in a similarly chic white scarf when she visited a mosque in Malaysia.
Diana wore a skirt suit n 1988 and looked very fashion-forward. Meanwhile, Kate wore a powder blue version of the same skirt suit with a peplum on her first solo trip overseas in 2016 and looked just as stylish.
Houndstooth is a classic pattern but when it's executed in red, it stands out as something very fresh and different. Diana wore the print on a Moschino suit in the 1990s while Kate also sported the same pattern in her Catherine Walker coat on her trip to Stockholm in 2018.
Now in 2022, 25 years after Princess Diana’s death, Kate is still looking up to her as a style icon.

For Remembrance Day in 2016, Kate wore a similar dress to one that Diana had worn previously. Perfectly capturing the somber mood of the event, fans were struck by how similar Kate looked to Princess Diana, as her outfit appeared to reference the look that Diana wore during Remembrance Day in 1991. The event takes place on the second Sunday of every November to honor members of the military that passed in World War I.
For 2022's Remembrance Day, Kate also donned a similar black outfit, a poppy pin and a big black hat. But her tribute to her late mother-in-law didn't stop there. She further glamourized the look by wearing Princess Diana’s pearl and diamond earrings. The drop pearl earrings were worn by Diana on two notable occasions; first, during her visit to Budapest, Hungary in 1990, and later at a banquet that she attended in Seoul, South Korea.
As for Kate, this wasn’t the first time that she wore the earrings. While attending the red carpet for the BAFTA Awards 2019, Kate debuted the same earrings, paired with her one-shoulder white Alexander McQueen gown, which made her look ethereal.
Kate, who has not missed a single Remembrance Day since her marriage to Prince William in 2011, was present this year, standing beside Camilla, Queen Consort.
“At the #RemembranceSunday Service this morning, remembering all those who have served and continue to serve our nation and the Commonwealth,” the official Twitter account of the Prince and Princess of Wales tweeted.
King Charles and his firstborn and heir apparent, Prince William, were also present at The Cenotaph on Whitehall in London for Remembrance Day 2022.
