It is no secret that the British royal family has thrown all of their support behind helping those who are battling mental issues. Prince William and Prince Harry have been especially vocal about this initiative in recent years. However, it is only recently that people have learned of Kate Middleton's personal connection to this important issue.

The Duchess of Cambridge's youngest sibling, James, said to the Telegraph that his sister played a big role in helping him to get through a tough season in his life. The 32-year-old said that Kate and his family were instrumental in helping him to work through his suicidal thoughts.

James is now opening up about the pivotal role that his family played to assist him in working through his mental health. The entrepreneur is now in a better place and recently proposed to his 29-year-old French financier girlfriend, Alizee Thevenet. The two became engaged after dating for just over one year. They met at the South Kensington Club and were engaged in the Lake District.

James said that in addition to Kate, his mother Carole, his father Michael, and his other older sister Pippa all joined him when he attended his therapy sessions. As he opened up, James said that he could not even sleep or eat during the low periods in his life.

James was initially worried about confiding in his family and he kept all of his problems to himself. Fortunately for him, his close-knit family realized that something was wrong. They worked with his friends to stage an intervention so that James could get the help that he needed to get his mental health back on track.

In an effort to treat the underlying issues, James was admitted into a private psychiatric hospital so that he could undergo cognitive behavioral therapy. These sessions proved to be a turning point for the troubled soul. It was during these meetings that he admitted to having suicidal thoughts. James also admits that he suffers from dyslexia and attention deficit disorder.

He relies on his family and the support of his dog Ella to help him to get through emotional times. James also runs, bikes, and skis to stay mentally healthy. In addition to the physical activity, he is a big fan of listening to audiobooks to decompress.
